Looking for a Pack? Start here!

In general, most Garou, and some Fera, operate best as part of a pack. When the right personalities, abilities, pieces of the puzzle come together, pack adventures can be the best of times. Pack Tactics can be used when in battle, as well as just the social nature of it is quite appealing. You also have the benefit of a Totem Spirit that you can call on for a lot of bonuses that makes adventures so much more fulfilling as well.

There are several options for becoming part of a pack. Read below to find out! Any questions? Speak to Skully or Johanna.

How to Join a Pack

If you're interested in joining an existing pack, the way to achieve that dream is to talk to the members of that pack directly. It never hurts to express your interest directly to the Pack themselves and to ask them what they're looking for in a new member, but always be aware that the main criterion for joining a pack is that the other members want you in it. Be prepared for 'no' answers (and try not to take them personally!) and don't pin all of your hopes on one of the established packs taking you in as a new pup. It may turn out you just have to start a pack of your own.

If you do find a pack willing to accept you, the next step is getting at least one dot of Totem in order to be eligible to join. You'll also want to talk to your new pack about their expectations (it's likely they'll want you to put more than a single dot into Totem) and then formally have your Pack Alpha put in the +request to have you added to the pack itself. Finally, you cannot have both a Personal Totem and a Pack Totem; once you join a pack you have to leave your Personal Totem behind.

How to Start a Pack

Okay, so you don't want to join a pack; you want to build one up from scratch. What you're gonna need is at least one other Garou to join you and enough points in Totem between you to afford your chosen Totem. Once you've fulfilled those requirements, you put in a +request and you're all set! More than 2 members is optimal, but it only takes two to Totem.

For more information on building a Totem, see +rules totem

Non-Garou can join a pack?

Depending on what category you fall in, yes, non-Garou can join a Garou pack. Check out below!

I'm a Kinfolk

Kinfolk are allowed to join Garou packs. A Garou pack may include one Kinfolk member for every 2 Garou in the pack, but no more; packs are fundamentally Garou social groups, after all. There are no special restrictions on Kinmagi or Kinfolk Kinain being in packs, either; Kinfolk are Kinfolk. Kinfolk are, however, limited to contributing a maximum of 5 points toward the Pack Totem, as opposed to the 10 a Garou may add.

I'm Possessed

Kami and Gorgons may potentially join a Gaian Garou pack with the same rules and limitations as Kinfolk (though they may neither possess nor contribute to the Totem background). Fomori have the same options with Spiral Packs. Drones do not join Garou Packs.

I'm Fera

You can, actually! Fera who wish to join a Garou pack may join with the same basic standing as a Garou. The Fera in question must, of course, be of a compatible Breed and mindset to the Garou and to their Pack Totem for this to be possible. As with Garou, Fera may not have both a Personal Totem and a Pack Totem; you must give up the former to have the latter.

Tagalongs

Question: I want to hang out with a pack and go on adventures, but I'm not sure if I want to join yet.

Answer: That's not really a question, but I see what you're getting at. First, feel free; if they want you along, go hang out. If you're asking how you can eat your cake and have it too vis-a-vis Pack benefits, there's a Gift called Tagalong that allows you to join a pack temporarily. You may want to pick that up.

Temporary Packs

Question: I've got a few volunteers, but we're not sure if we want to form a permanent pack yet.

Answer: Packs don't have to be permanent. While they can be the strongest bonds formed between Garou and serve as a family, they are also sometimes formed to accomplish a single goal or for a certain period of time. If you're gonna make a temporary pack, just be clear with everyone about the limits of that pack and don't overload Staff with a lot of paperwork for a pack that isn't going to be around for long (for example, don't spend too much time debating what you want to spend your Totem points on acquiring).

There is also a Rite called The Rite of the Pack's Blood specifically for forming temporary packs. Consider performing it when you set out with this temporary unit.
