Furio Fulminatus Cabrini
"Forty thousand years of evolution and we've not yet begun to tap the vastness of human potential."
xxxxxFurio Fulminatus Cabrini was born fifty years ago. His parents were the children of Sicilian immigrants who had fled Italy in the aftermath of World War II. His father also happened to be the capo for the local branch of the Cabrini Mafia family, specializing in illegal gambling and numbers running. His mother was a beloved socialite, the primadonna hostess of numerous gala balls and social events. But it was his grandfather, the Glass Walker Philodox Serge Lex Legio, from whence Fury's true potential comes.
xxxxxFury wanted for nothing as he grew up in his parents' palatial estate on the outskirts of New York City. He had the best tutors money could buy, the finest clothing, the best food, everything anyone could ever ask for. He attended the most prestigious private academy, where he matured into a large, strapping young man. He was popular with his peers and a hit on the football field. But though some might have taken him for an ignorant jock, his grades were top of the class. He was intelligent and witty, able to pass the most difficult tests in his sleep. With a full-ride scholarship to Harvard in the offing, it seemed like Fury's future was set.
xxxxxHe was only a few months into his first semester at college, however, when a mob war erupted between the Cabrinis and their bitter rivals, the Genoveses. It didn't take long for Fury to piece together the bits of the puzzle, and realize that there was more to the conflict than simple mob violence. It was a turf war between rival Glass Walker packs. As a Kinfolk soldier, his father was called to march with Lex Legio's pack. The notion terrified young Fury, and he refused to fight. His younger brother Julian, however, was all too excited to go, and experienced his First Change during the battle. That initial conflict would grow into a long-running feud between Lex Legio's pack and their rivals in the Genovese family. And though his brother was praised for his valor in combat, Fury himself was scorned, both for his refusal to fight and for the fact that he never Changed himself.
xxxxxWhile the rival families feuded, Fury knuckled down and finished out his bachelor's degree in finances, graduating summa cum laude. It wasn't long afterward that the Genoveses turned the tables against his grandfather's pack, killing his father outright and maiming Lex Legio with silver blades. It was the final straw. Furio swore he would have nothing further to do with the family business. Instead, he would go on to found Paragon Banking, with his younger brother Julian assuming their father's duties as capo and alpha of Lex Legio's pack. The stigma of being a Cabrini would haunt Furio for the rest of his days, though he would go on to great success as a legitimate financier despite all the odds.
xxxxxWhen the nascent Internet began to emerge across the world, Fury was instantly captivated. The ability to conduct business and exchange transactions instantly across the globe would open the door for a whole new means of doing business. But e-business was not without its perils and pitfalls, as he would find out just after his forty-fifth birthday. The back-and-forth feud between his brother's pack and the Genoveses still ran hot, and as the eldest and wealthiest Cabrini son, Fury made a ripe target. Their capo, Giorgio Genovese, ordered a vicious virtual attack against Paragon Banks, stripping Fury of his identity in one fell swoop.
xxxxxAs he stood on the brink of financial ruin, the fragility of identity and its implications drove Fury to the edge. He struggled to cope with the crushing losses his company suffered, all because everything that made him who he was was nothing more than a handful of 1s and 0s in a computer server. Though he could not hope to match the Genovese Theurges and their mastery over net spirits, he refused to be beaten. He delved into Internet lore with a will, determined to recover from this grievous setback. One evening, after nearly thirty straight hours of research, the answers came to Fury in a vivid flash of brilliant insight. His Avatar, which had Slept fitfully for many years, exploded into full awareness, opening his mind to the limitless possibilities embodied by the Internet, and what that really, truly meant.
xxxxxWith his newfound ability, Fury was able to turn the tables on his attackers. Now, he could match the Genovese Theurges on their own terms, with magick every bit as powerful as their own. With a few Internet attacks, he was able to eviscerate Giorgio Genovese' finances, leaving a data trail a mile wide that exposed his illicit dealings. When the FBI moved to arrest Giorgio, Fury realized that his journey to enlightenment had only just begun. He made a grave enemy that day, but he also discovered a potent weapon to defend himself and all he had worked for.
xxxxxIt wasn't long afterward that Fury was approached by Dante of the Virtual Adepts. He'd been watching Fury's progress with some interest, and wanted to bring him into the fold. At first, Fury balked. The more he learned about the Adepts, the less he liked them. To his mind, they were little more than teenaged anarchists, using their computer savvy and incredible gifts for nothing more than elaborate pranks. But then, he learned of the Technocratic Union, and their plan for world domination at the cost of the free will of every man, woman, and child on the planet. Given that choice, Fury went with the lesser of two evils, and threw his lot in with the Adepts.
xxxxxThat was five years ago. In the interim, Paragon Banking has become one of the premier financial institutions in the country. Millions of account holders all across the planet funnel their money through Paragon's ironclad servers, millions of dollars that exist completely within the virtual realms of the Net. Fury himself has continued to hone his gifts, seeking the hidden meanings behind the virtual symbols that make up the Net. He adheres strictly to the Rule of Shade, to protect his assets from his enemies in the Union. He has recently moved Paragon's headquarters to Prospect, so that he can stay one step ahead of the Genovese family, who still seek vengeance against him for putting Giorgio behind bars. He still has contact with his brother Julian, and has come into his own place in the Garou nation. Though still mistrusted by some Garou as a caern-raping mage, his Glass Walker heritage keeps the door open to him. Though he remains steadfastly separate from the Cabrini Mafia business, that door too is always open to him should his need ever be great enough.
xxxxxAs he strives ever forward on the pathway towards Ascension, Fury represents the more conservative, responsible side of a Tradition composed of anarchists and rebels. He stands with the Cyberpunk alt of the Tradition, representing rebels against the authority of the Technocratic Union and the Dark Future with which they threaten the whole of mankind. But if he must be a rebel to do what he knows is right, then so be it. There are worse things one could aspire to be.

"I've heard some stories. I'll tell you this--Twilight it ain't. I'll be perfectly happy if I never encounter one of these... things."
"The echoes of tragedy and travesty. As bad off as things can be sometimes, it's interesting that the world isn't flooded with ghosts. That begs the question--where are they all?"
"Fairies? Really? Well... if nothing is impossible--and I know that that is the case--then I suppose, but... really?"
"It's like I try to tell the younger folk. Our powers do not belong to us. We have them so that we can save them. Save everyone. In the end, we're only human ourselves."
"For all their inward focus and frankly bewildering emphasis on pacifism, they have some remarkable understanding about quantum fundamentals. It doesn't matter if they're dressed up in assembler code or a Zen koan--truth is truth."
"I am absolutely convinced something called God exists. Even if I have no idea what God is. While the possibility certainly exists that all of this was some great cosmic accident, I choose to believe in something more than that. Who we are and what we do is something special. Maybe even something holy."
"Like the Akashics, they have some profound understanding of the way the universe works. Unlike the Akashics, they're more than willing to loosen up and enjoy themselves. I can respect both these things. They throw a hell of a party, too."
"I really don't understand why they fear us so much. I'll be the first to agree that what happened to their ancestors was a tragedy. But my magick is just as potent and just as real as their own. The computer is just a tool, same as their crystals and rattles."
"It's just as well that they police themselves as heavily as they do. Killing should never become easy. It should scar you and torture you all the days of your life. If it doesn't, then you have no soul worth speaking of. Every Euthanatos I've ever met has a good soul."
"Looking backwards gets us nowhere. The future lies ahead. The Order boasts an impressive resume, but unless they manage to modernize their ways in a big hurry, I'm afraid their performance review is going to be somewhat... lacking. Get with the times, my friends. The Council still requires your leadership."
"Hah! Now these fellows I can get behind! Our fellow ex-Technocrats in the Council. Sure, some of them are more whimsical than others. But science is a method, same as any other. What one does with it is what matters. These fellows, with their Utopian ideals, make for excellent allies."
"Like the Order of Hermes, they seem to be too caught up in what came before. Like the Dreamspeakers, they seem incensed over injustices centuries old. If they'd just take a look around, they'd see that the perception of old faiths and the place of women in society has changed dramatically. They must as well, for their own sakes."
"How can anyone see what we have seen, and can do the things we can do, continue to cling to a posture of complete hopelessness? There is no such thing as a Dark Future. There is only a Dark Now. But if they don't take a good look around and do something, then nothing will ever change."
"Humans are not sheep who need shepherding. Society is not a garden they may till at their leisure. We can survive without being owned. We are people. Not pets. They cannot control us. They cannot stop us. We are everywhere, and we are not going away."
"Technology must be used to assist humankind in reaching its fullest potential. It will never replace us, no matter how advanced it becomes. They are all working under a delusion. More's the pity. They could do so much for the Masses if they would but realize this."
"Anyone who would turn life into a weapon is beyond contempt. Not even they can fully understand the ramifications of what they are doing. Evolution must happen on its own. If they try to force it, there's no telling what will become of us."
"We're not so different, they and I. But in the end, they use the power of value to make slaves of people, rather than using it to set them free. It's a subtle difference. But it's enough to make us enemies. I know their game. I know the rules. And I will beat them at it at every turn."
"Sometimes, I almost wish they had sided with us. There's a part of me that longs for what they accomplish so easily. To see the stars and other worlds. But as long as they remain loyal to the Union, we can't be allies. That saddens me more than I can say."
"I consider myself a rational, patient man. But my patience ends where they and all their filthy kind are concerned. At least the Union claims to have humanity's safety in mind. All the Nephandi do is destroy everything they touch. I cannot and will not allow this."
"Dangerous. Too dangerous. That they can make insanity contagious... terrifying. Best avoided at all costs."
"Heh heh heh... well now. How you doin'?"
"I don't understand why they all hate me so much. It's not as if I were born with a silver spoon in my mouth. All that I have, I have worked to obtain. They could have what I have too, if they truly wanted it."
"Peace is a noble goal, made all the more significant when championed by those who are born for war. This tribe has much of my respect."
"The whole animosity between the Irish and Italians notwithstanding, I find I like the Fianna. They say what they mean, they wear their hearts on their sleeves, and they do nothing halfway. Good folk."
"The more they beat their chests and howl for blood and glory, the more I have to wonder what they're really covering up. I sense a lot of guilt coming from this bunch."
"What can I say about my own family? Of all the tribes, we are those charged with safeguarding the human race. I may not be a fighter. But I am a warrior, in my own way. I fight for the future of mankind and the preservation of Gaia. I will do all I can to make sure my relations have what they need."
"No. Stop. Stop right there. No, sit down and be quiet. No more talk like that where I can hear it, capice? Genocide is not the answer to anything."
"Hmm. Clever. Too clever. But, well... as long as they keep the interests of the Garou Nation ahead of their own, I can deal with them. But the day that that is no longer the case... they'll be worthy adversaries, at least."
"I envy them their ability to travel with such ease and freedom, without the Paradox Effect to weigh them down. I only wish I could do the things they can. But sometimes, they worry me. Wolves were never meant to run alone."
"So long as they govern the Nation with wisdom and fairness for all--Garou and Kinfolk alike--then I'm content. And when they don't? Well. I got three words for you. Sic. Semper. Tyrannus."
"They're a curious bunch. They always make me scratch my head. They're like Akashics, in a way. Always thinking and contemplating. They're nothing like any of the other tribes. They're not bad, certainly, just. Different."
"I can never shake the notion that they're delving into things best left untouched. No one can deny they have some impressive knowledge. But what you know colors you, and this tribe's colors run dark. That doesn't seem very healthy to me."
"I want to respect the Wendigo. Really I do. But when they get all up in arms for the mere reason that I'm a horrible old white man... all I can do is throw my hands up."

Now here's a young man with his head on straight. Driven and talented, with clear vision and remarkable skill, and that's on top of being part of the tribe. Reminds me of myself at that age. "Only shooting stars break the mold."

One of the wisest Garou I know. He's helped me learn so much about the Nation. My go-to source for data on Nearband and xenophorm issues. Just gotta remember to cool it with the technobabble. "Let your spirit fly."

She's trying to find her way. It concerns me that she's struggling so much to find her place in our sept. She's a sweet girl. That counts for more than folks seem to realize. But how to help her see that? "The girl with kalidescope eyes."

Magick: The Code
xxxxxSince their days in the Technocratic Union, when they were known as Difference Engineers, the Virtual Adepts have understood a most important truth about the universe. All things are composed of information. The human mind, as the vehicle of the Genius, has the unique ability to interact with this fundamental Code. Quantum observation creates reality. Conception + Perception = Form is a simplification of the process that all mages have understood since the dawn of time. Within the last century, the Masses have begun to grasp the same principles through the study of quantum physics. One of the first concepts of quantum physics is that of the Observer Phenomenon--the idea that the mere act of observing a thing can change it. This is key to the way Virtual Adepts like Furio make their magick. The Awakening brings with it new means of perceiving the universe. The Awakened mind can make observations that can make changes far more profound than one that is not Awake. Furio refers to these acts of magick as 'accessing the Code'--utilizing his Awakened observations to change the universe.
Quintessence and Paradox: Currency and Bad Debt
xxxxxAs a banker and financier, Furio sees each access of the Code as a transaction. Quintessence is the Currency of the universe, the metaphysical cashflow with which reality 'buys' its realness. The metaphor is a useful one, considering the Awakened have used Quintessence, Tass, and Nodes as renewable resources and currency for millenia. Currency can be Hard Currency or Cash, in the form of Tass. It can be Liquid Credit, held in Trust by the Genius. Nodes are Vaults, where Currency is deposited and renewed by the natural motion of the universe. Access to Prime Code allows a mage to manpulate Currency in fundamental ways. However, when one touches the universe, one is touched in return. The Masses remain blissfully unaware of their countless observations shaping reality all around them. The Awakened do not have the luxury of ignorance. Every time they access the Code, they run the risk of Paradox. In Furio's mind, Paradox is Bad Debt, a metaphysical negation that can invalidate Currency. When allowed to accumulate, Bad Debt can become a Rebound. Lesser Rebounds smooth themselves out on their own. Larger ones can have serious complications. The worst can manifest as physical injuries as Furio's own body is strained to right the metaphysical imbalance that led to the Default. Bad Debt can be avoided by preventing conflicts between Awakened and unAwakened observations. The more plausible and acceptable a piece of Code is, the less likely it is to accumulate Bad Debt. Conversely, performing the seemingly impossible is almost sure to guarantee a Rebound.
Avatar: The Genius
xxxxxThe Virtual Adepts are the newest Tradition, having defected from the Technocratic Union just over sixty years ago. As such, they still retain much of their Technocratic understanding, particularly when it comes to matters of the human soul. Though newer Virtual Adepts are beginning to accept the concept of the Avatar, there are many who still refer to it by its Technocratic term--the Genius. Furio in particular subscribes to this method. He has never actually seen his Avatar. For him, his higher self has taken the form of an enlightened intuition. A means of seeing the universe not with his eyes, but with his mind. When he undergoes Seekings to advance his Arete, he does not enter a dreamscape. Rather, he solves puzzles and riddles in the waking world. It is there, in the world he shares with every other human in the world, that he finds the answers to all his questions.
The Spheres: Codebase
xxxxxLike all mages, Furio recognizes nine fundamental ways in which the universe can be changed by application of Awakened will. These Spheres form the Nine Codebases from which he draws his magickal power. As former Technocrats, Virtual Adepts require tools and foci to access the Code, and Furio is no exception. Unlike other more mystick Traditions, Furio will not be able to surpass his need for foci until he reaches the ultimate enlightenment, when he will transcend human experience and become part of the Code himself.
Correspondence
The speciality Sphere of the Virtual Adepts, and the first one that Furio has Mastered. His focus is a smartphone modified with a penta-core trinary array. This device allows him to work the highly complex hypermathematical computations necessary to control space, dimension, and geometry. Like anything else in the universe, location is a matter of information. All points in space have a value relative to one another, which is equal to one. This is the Correspondence Point, the rational constant that enables a willworker with understanding of Correspondence to view other places, manipulate things at distance, change their own location, and modify the parameters of geometry.
Entropy
This Codebase grants a willworker access to powers over chaos, order, random chance, and statistical inevitability. Furio has gained access to Entropic Code, discerning the pattern that lies behind probabilites and connecting the dots that link seemingly random occurances. He makes use of random number generator program to help him crystallize variables into the patterns he requires. By locking the appropriate variables into place within his mind, Furio becomes able to assert those variables upon the universe, granting himself fortune, cursing others with bad luck, reinforcing order, or promoting chaos. He can assert control over repeatable systems of motion, allowing him to maintain machinery or stop it dead in its tracks. As his skill with Entropy grows, he will learn how to apply these variables to living systems, and eventually cognitive patterns themselves.
Forces
Energy in all its forms is the purview of this Codebase. At its most fundamental, the universe is composed of varying quantities of energy in numerous superquantum states. Having gained advanced access to Forces, Furio is now able to detect and control discrete quantities of energy. He is able to exercise enough precision to remap a given energy state's superquantum state. Light can become sound, gamma rays can become electricity, and so forth. By adding subroutines from other Codebases, Furio can even metamorphose living tissue, inorganic matter, or even pure Quintessence into quantities of energy. To access Forces, he utilizes visible light as a baseline. A hypertech holographic emitter allows him to make use of various wavelengths of visible light to control and transform energy. With greater access, he will be able to expand the scope of his control, affecting larger energetic systems.
Life
Study and manipulation of living organics is covered by this highly esoteric Codebase. To focus on Life Code, Furio utilizes a breed of nanomech that he designed himself. These machines, each one no larger than a cell's nucleus, form a reactive network within a living organism. Given direction through trinary computer instructions, a nanomech field can make edits to a living organism at the subgenetic level, literally rewriting physiology on the fly. Having attained Mastery of Life, Furio is able to make radical alterations to both his own physical form as well as any other living creature. He can heal, harm, augment, metamorphose, and otherwise alter any type of living creature, without regard for species or physical limitation.
Matter
Nonorganic material is expressed through Matter Code. Furio makes use of a holographic data prism to scan, study, and project alterations to material substances. Paired with a trinary device, he is able to sample a substance's atomic structure and make changes to it via quantum induction. Having mastered this Codebase, the world of inorganic substance is completely opened to Furio's control. He can create or destroy materials at will, and can reshape existing material into any configuration he desires. Combined with other Codebases, he can seamlessly integrate substances together, without contaminating any of the individual components. He is even capable of creating substances that do not exist in nature, and is able to create wholly new elements beyond those on the periodic table.
Mind
Conscious thought and emotion are governed by the Mind Codebase. Furio utilizes parallexin, a tailored smart drug, to unlock higher forms of thought. When inhaled in its vapor state, parallexin increases neural conductivity and accelerates active cognition, allowing thoughts to be formed in ways that mimic psychic phenomena. Furio's access to Mind Code has grown advanced, allowing him to maximize his cognitive capabilities and form sophisticated defenses against mental intrusion. He is capable of perfect emotional control and true telepathic contact, as well as linguistic interchange at the root concept level. He has learned to exert subtle control over other thinking minds, altering memory or taking complete control of their processes. True masters of Mind Code are capable of forging entirely new consciousness, the source of true AI, and existing as entities of pure thought.
Prime
This Codebase gives access to Currency itself--the Quintessence of the universe, the metaphysical essence that forms all things. It is the fundamental Fifth Force, simultaneously representing potential change and concrete existence. All things are composed of this Quintessence. Solid matter, living organics, all forms of energy, abstract concepts--all are expressions of this fundamental subquantum force. Furio utilizes physical currency to help him focus his mind on perceiving and directing Quintessence. Quintessence can fuel Code access directly, or it can be used in the creation of Devices--objects invested with Code of their own. Having mastered this Codebase, Furio is now capable of drawing upon the subquantum layer of the universe itself, arranging its patterns and charging himself without need for the superabundant Quintessence found in Nodes. He can dissipate the Quintessence forming the Patterns of things, effectively redacting them from existence.
Dimension
One of the more esoteric Codebases, Dimension Code grants access to the Nearband beyond the Divide that separates the Gaiasphere from the rest of the universe. It also allows interaction with the xenophorm entities that are native to those myriad subdimensions. Furio makes use of a exodimensional oscillation device to access Dimension Code. This hypertech unit, based on a modified smart ring, accepts trinary instructions to manipulate the Divide in a variety of ways. Having Mastered this Codebase, he is capable of a number of exodimensional feats. He is able to manipulate the thickness of the Divide, communicate with xenophorm entities, and even breech the wall between worlds to travel beyond. With time and preparation, he can open free-standing gates in the Divide, allowing passage from either side. He can also interlace a xenophorm into a physical object to create a fetish. At the uppermost limit of his skill, he is capable of traveling to and surviving in the Deep Umbra, as well as metamorphosing ephemeral matter at its most fundamental.
Time
This demanding Codebase gives a willworker command over time itself. Just as all points in observable space coexist simultaneously, so too do all moments in time coexist simultaneously. This being the case, knowledge of Time Code allows a willworker to view other moments in time, either past or future, and to alter the way the motion of time is experienced. To access Time Code, Furio has designed a smartwatch with an isolinear tachyhedron, a crystalline structure that accumulates and emits tachyon particles, which can be used to manipulate individual points in time.

Stinkin' Rich: Fury's got money, and plenty of it. As a successful banker, he knows how to do the finance dance. He can often be found moving and shaking in the circles of high society. To his peers in the Council of Traditions and the Garou Nation, he is always ready to extend credit to anyone in need of a little extra cash.
Viva la Resistance: He's a Virtual Adept, but he's a far cry from your typical anarchic techno-punk. He is reserved, conservative, dignified, and well-spoken. But he's also a rebel. Against the Dark Future the Technocratic Union seeks to give the Masses. Against the evil of the Wyrm and the inevitability of the Apocalypse. For this reason, he counts himself among the Cyberpunks of his Tradition.
Starlight, Star Bright: Why limit yourself to just one planet? The Correspondence Sphere is the specialty of the Virtual Adepts. With it comes the understanding that three-dimensional space is an elaborate optical illusion. Fury is a budding astronomer, fascinated by the paradox (no pun intended) of the vastness of interstellar distance when held up against his absolute certainty that that distance is meaningless.
Woke Up This Morning:Furio is a member of the Cabrini Mafia family, which is known in underworld circles as specialists in illegal gambling, numbers running, and protection. His brother Julian is the Family boss, and they do a tidy business back in New York City. Though Fury himself remains well apart from that world, it's a part of himself he can never quite escape.

Honest Corporate Executive: Fury has Lawful Good written firmly in inkpen on his character sheet. He has seen the worst humanity has to offer itself, and strives to stand as an example to what people could be instead. He's not above using the lure of money to sweeten an otherwise unpalatable deal, so long as said deal works towards the greater good.
Good Is Not Soft: Although he strives to be a friend to everyone he meets, Fury has been around for awhile. He knows that sometimes, you have to be a hardass to keep innocent people safe. The Technocratic Union lies, cheats, and kills to get what it wants. Sometimes, being Mr. Nice Guy isn't enough. Sometimes, you have to stand and fight.
The Team Benefactor: That being said, Fury is not the man you'll find on the front lines, Matrix-dodging bullets and laying a Neo-level smackdown on the Bad Guys. Though not a pacifist, he recognizes his own limitations. He's much more comfortable providing financial, magickal, and moral support to his friends than actually wading into combat himself.
Cigar Chomper: Fury's a bit old-fashioned. He's a man of few vices, but this is one of them. Ashes to Ashes is quickly becoming one of his favorite places to spend downtime, as one of the few places in Prospect where he can enjoy a cigar indoors.
Badass Beard: He's quite proud of his. Nothing says noble patriarch like a properly groomed beard.
