Welcome to the Gaian Sphere!

When your new character has been approved, there are a few things that are traditional for you to do. Now, some of your backgrounds may not fit into this, especially if you are keeping to an Urban setting, so adjust this for how you wish for your RP.

Please take time to read through the following information provided, as well as information on the bulletin boards +bbread, in particular Board 13, and then the boards specific to your type of Shifter/Kin. Remember, this is meant for City of Hope MUSH, and getting started in our game here. You may have played on other MU*’s, LARP’s, or Table Top, but those are different in some practices than what we have developed here since 2012.

Getting Started

Below is an order for presenting yourself to the Sept by which traditionally is followed by new players:

  1. Howl of Introduction (Garou)
  2. Meet with the Warder (NPC)
  3. Meet with an Elder

1. Howl of Introduction

Garou traditionally will howl upon coming to the new territory of the new Sept. This follows along with the litany, announcing before you enter someone else’s yard, so to speak. Examples for that can be found here:

Example for Intro Howl

Kinfolk, on the other hand, can consider making a post that says to the effect that word gets around of a new Kinfolk in town, but it is by no means required.

2. Meet with the Warder

The Garou's Caern is in the deep forest. All Gaians are welcome, not just Garou and their Kinfolk. Take a look at '+map/caern':

  • Public area: Row 1 (#1186) is the forest grid room where the caern is located.
  • Gaians only: Rows 2-3 (Cave, Large Cavern, Guest Lodge, Patrol Depot) are covered by a new 'Warder Station' hangout. '+hangout/jump warder' sends you to Large Cavern, where the NPC Warder is stationed.
  • Vetted PCs only: Rows 4-5 (Mystic Valley, Living Area, Ritual Clearing, Amphitheater, Catacombs, Caern Heart) are covered by the 'Caern' hangout. '+hangout/jump caern' sends you to Mystic Valley as usual.

For those newer to Werewolf: The Apocalypse, the Warder is a Garou that leads the defense of the bawn around the Caern. He or She is trained to 'sniff' out who or what someone is that comes to try to enter the Caren. On City of Hope MUSH, that is an NPC stationed there.

While all Gaians can enter, they must pass through the warder first. The vetting works like this:

  • All new PCs need to go to "+hangouts/jump warder" FIRST. That takes you to the Warder Station, and then you use the command: "+warder/handwave" (this @mails your race and subrace to the PC elders) and then they can proceed.
  • Anyone who's ICly trying to fool the Warder should +request, and if they succeed then staff will flag you appropriately and tell the PC elders what they learn.
  • If there are any issues with this code working, please +request to staff.

3. Meet with an Elder

Shifters and Kinfolk all should seek out their Elder to introduce themselves. Sending an @mail is recommended, as not everyone is online at the same time zones, or realizes someone new has joined. For some, that may be harder than others, as some breeds/tribes have far fewer than others, and so seeking out another Elder (Rank 5) is alright. It is recommended to check on the wiki for your breed, and then follow from there to the tribe, etc.

Additional Shifter Info

Information on setting up your shift code, renown, ranking up, and learning rites can be found as well on the Primer for Cliaths Page. While the page is a ‘Primer for Cliaths’, it is meant for anyone new to City Of Hope Garou Sphere, it can be applied for any shifter as well. The page is not just for people brand new to Garou, it is meant for people that have not played on this mush before to learn some of our customs and house rules.

Getting going in RP

There are several ways to get started with RP in the Gaian sphere. From joining our OOC channels, finding hangouts, meeting Elders, to making your board post to introduce yourself. It really depends some on what your character is (Shifter, Kinfolk), and what they do. Here are some of the basics below.

Channels

Be sure to join the Gaian channel, and then your breed channel, if it exists. Here are some of the appropriate ones:

Ananasi For Ananasi shifters and kinfolk. Bastet For Bastet shifters and kinfolk. BeastCourts For shifters belonging to the Beast Courts. Fera Fera shifters and kinfolk. Gaian Gaian shifters and kinfolk. Garou Gaian Garou shifters and kinfolk. GarouKinfolk Gaian Garou kinfolk. GarouShifter Gaian Garou shifters. GetOfFenris Get of Fenris shifters and kinfolk. RuralGarou For rural Gaian Garou. UrbanGarou For urban Gaian Garou.

Channels can only be joined if your +sheet passes the locks to allow you. So while all Garou and Garou Kinfolk can join the Garou channel, only Garou Kinfolk can join the GarouKinfolk Channel. If you believe you should be on a channel and the code it isn’t letting you, +request to staff for assistance.

Joining these OOC channels will give you a direct line to many of the more active RPers around, as well as a chance to ask where to go meet some people.

Hangouts

Gaian Hangouts listed below will be someplace that is known in the area. Going to the Caern, or word of mouth even from NPCs will tell you that you are safe to go these places.

+hangouts will give you a listing on game of which ones you can see currently have players within it, and gives a count and short description.

For those newer to the game, please check +help meet implications, as the listed hangouts are for Gaian's only. You may not know if another PC is able to pass the locks into one of these locations, so be sure to ask before you use +meet to bring someone in.

More questions?

Check out the wiki. The Garou page has a lot of additional pages attached to it that may explain a lot to help you out. There are tribe pages available, information on magical item creation, rituals, the litany, renown Sept Patrols (which can include Fera and kinfolk!), renown charts, and much much more!

Is something missing? Just let one of the people listed at the top of the page know, and we will look into it!
