At a table near the communal library, between the entrance to it and the bright red phone booth, Vic is 'hard at work' at either programming or a video game, it would be hard to tell without actually looking over the young woman's shoulder. She has one earbud in with the other flung over her shoulder so that if someone were to approach and speak to her she'd have a better than even chance of being aware of it.

The door to the kitchen upstairs opens and closes, the noise from above growing louder and then dying down as footsteps tromp down the wooden staircase. The pair of legs stop about halfway down, rummaging in a bag and setting something down before finishing their descent, the owner - a woman Vic almost certainly does not recognize and has never seen before - calling up. "You sit there and behave yourself. I know how you like watching from up there." This is followed by a metallic crunch, chewing, and a grinding of what sounds like metal on metal. The woman seems to find this perfectly okay, mind you, and pivots on the ball of her foot to face the room proper.

Thorn is dressed comfortably, in jeans, a T-shirt, and a fairly battered pair of leather boots. A messenger bag is slung haphazardly across her chest, and she's apparently in the process of tucking her phone away due to the whole 'no photographs' rule that this place has going on. Of course she knows why - it's a rule that's almost certainly been paid for in blood dozens of times. "Oh!" She catches sight of someone downstairs, nervously brushing her hair behind her ear. "Hello there."

Vic looks up from her laptop and nods to Thorn's greeting. "Hiya," she says. "I'm Vic, you're new OR just haven't been around for a while since I am, myself, relatively new also." She then just comes out and asks, "Mage, Sorcerer or affiliated hanger-on?"

"I'm just looking for the bathroom, actually." The brunette pauses for a beat, an impish grin causing her dimples to show - the inevitable other shoe coming a second later. "Just messing with you. Mage. Newly arrived, so not sorcerer or affiliated hanger on." She just got introduced to the place yesterday, and since she's looking for a place still, it's kind of where she goes to not be around the mundanes. "Nice to meet you, Vic. I'm Thorn." She takes a few more steps into the place, gravitating towards the couch which, handily, is close enough to chat. "What flavor mage are you, Hmm?"

Vic grins as she looks over the open lid of her laptop which, now that its more a center of attention, will be noticed to have either been custom made or be an off brand due to the stylistic and glowing T within a circle. Before answering she pulls out a similarly branded smartphone and sets it down on the table next to the laptop and then says, "I'm a V-Dept, Thorn. You?"

Evie bounds down the stairs in comfortable tee, skinny jeans, and pink Converse sneakers, and a mocha in hand. And a backpack with /stuff/. She seems a bit surprised to see others present at this hour, and even only recognizes one of those faces. She raises a free hand in greeting. "Oooooh! People! And a newbie too! So how's it goooooin?"

Sinking down into the couch, Thorn's attention goes to the pink-booted pastel gal bouncing down the stairs, raising a hand in response to her greeting and giving a little wave. She seems a little surprised that Mari wasn't seen when the other woman came down the stairs...little bugger must be hiding again. "Virtual Adept." she says truthfully, almost adding 'by default' unconsciously but, good for her, she doesn't. "Newly arrived as of two days ago. Just getting my feet wet before going out to change the world.". she grins. "And who might you be, mistress of pink and peach?"

Vic waves as she says, "Hey there Evie," effectively answering Thorn's question for the other mage and adding, "This is Thorn, another V-Dept. How're you doing?" she asks.

"Hey Vic! Thorn...? How's it going?" Evie plops next to the others, enjoying her coffee slowly. "I am hardly a mistress of pink peach stuff, but yeah. Name's Evie, and I'm the resident student of magickal arts. What do I do around here? Student about. And run an art studio for the general public. And... yeah that's it." She concedes her staggering limitations around her current company. "I'm not any of the Traditions yet. Still working on that..."

The couch has plenty of room, but to be polite Thorn scoots down just a hair to make room for Evie. "From what I can tell around here, you have your pick." Thirn says, sounding a little jealous of that. "Just take your time. Find your groove. Not like I'm one to give advice, but...yeah. Have fun with changing the world a little." She gives one of those grins and looks over at Vic. "Sweet computer. You get that case machined out somewhere?"

"Its off the shelf merch," Vic says, "At least where I'm from. Naturally I've customized it some what but..." She pauses, glances at Evie and grins as she says, "Hi, I'm Vic, I'm an extradimensional alien and a Virtual Adept," sounding like this is something she's said in this room semi-frequently.

Evie rolls her eyes at Vic's introduction. "Alternate timeline is not alien. You're literally another human, sheesh." She does seem a bit hesitant to discuss 'changing the world' though: she sorta handwobbles to Thorn, then shrugs. "Been having fun, actually. Art's a rather hefty departure from my choice of study on campus here, but it's been fun."

If Thorn hadn't seen stuff in her day to day life since awakening that would make a standard person flee in terror, she'd find the thought of extra dimensions and a traveller between the two super interesting. I mean, she does find it super interesting, but not in the mind-melting way it normally might. "Cool." Thorn grins. "You stuck here after a ill-timed dimensional jaunt or are you just visiting? Judging from that thing." she nods towards the computer and phone. "You've got a few generations on us at least."

"Anything you're leaning towards?" Thorn asks curiously.

"I'm stuck," Vic says without a hint of resignation or regret. "There was an Etherite who thought she might be able to help but... she vanished in a puff of Dox a while back."

Evie wobbles a hand. "Ehh... not sure I actually fit into a neat category. Nothing's clicked besides perception is everything, and that words can have incredible impact. There's also more to the typical Sleeper favorites than is obvious - tarot carries many centuries of meaning, quartz crystals are great stabilizers as well. Vic here can attest to the crystal thing, actually. Gonna revisit some of the more popular Buddhist philosophies and see if I can't drag out any more useful stuff."

"Aww." Thorn sounds sincere, deflating a little on her seat on the couch. "I'm really sorry to hear that. At least you're in a place with the beginnings of internet, wireless, and the like. I guess this is kind of quaint and backwater for you, huh?" She turns to Evie, nodding. "It's like a waterhose and really doesn't let up. And you don't just slot into a spot willy-nilly. Magic is like gravity - it'll draw you where you need to be most."

Vic's phone buzzes on the table and before addressing the comments of her companions. What ever was on the phone prompts her to start powering off and putting away her laptop in a messenger bag that was resting on the floor next to her chair. "Yeah, Evie's got some traditionally new-agey aspects to her foci from what I've seen so far, Thorn," she says and then adds, "This is actually the near future for me. A bit more than two months ago it was 2012 but we did have cybernetics you could buy off the shelf along with these good Tandy systems," that last was punctuated with a tap of the laptop case before she closes up the bag its gone into. She then stands and slings the bag over her shoulder. "I've got to get back to the gym, apparently the secretary did something and as their resident techie I've got to go recover the data on the server," she explains.

Oooh, Tandy. That's not a name she's heard in a long time. A long time, indeed. "You should have showed up a few years ago. Blade Runner 2099 had just come out, and all the old brands were super popular. You'd have been on the bleeding edge of fashion even more than you already were." Thorn sits back and nods, giving Vic a wave. "Good to meet you. You got an email I can hit you at or anything?" Because of course she does.

With a bit of a frown, and a good friendly parting hug, Evie sees Vic off. "Take care!" There's something about the term "new age" that seems to click in Evie's brain. "...new age. Yeah. That /is/ pretty much what I've been chasing up, with a short detour into tech. But really... the code isn't all binary. Sometimes it's Hebrew, and sometimes it's a deck of cards." A shrug. "And sometimes it's thrown out the window because I forgot to consider something miniscule."

Vic having explained her need to depart, Vic waves to Evie and Thorn after accepting the hug then heads up the stairs and out. On her way she rattles off an email address for Thorn and says, "I'll catch you both later," before she reaches the door at the top of the stairs and departs the basement fully.
