The Legend of Kandula, a King's Elephant

<span class="indent">Early in the second century BC a sacred and noble elephant arrived at the royal palace. His name was Kandula. The timely arrival coincided with the birth of Prince Gamani and was considered an important indicator of the prince's significance so the prince and the elephant were brought up together.</span>
