6/26/2022 21:47:09 Its hot in here. It's always hot when Theron is running the forge. At the moment the kinfolk is wearing a t-shirt, its soaked with sweat and over that an apron as he pounds on steel with his hammer, shaping the red glowing bit of metal.
6/26/2022 21:50:46 Jackie steps up to the door frame, blinking as the heat washes over her even at this distance from the forge itself. She pauses there for a moment, not wanting to interrupt him in the middle of a task. Then, thinking about it, she takes off her jacket and denim over shirt and sets them outside before taking a step past the threshold.
6/26/2022 21:53:26 A final two strikes and then Theron looks up, "Yeah. You'll be hot in here." he chuckles lightly, "How are you doing Jackie?" he asks of her curiously as he sets his steel back into the forge to heat back up. Never wanting to move cold steel.
6/26/2022 21:59:38 Jackie takes a few steps closer to the forge, already starting to sweat a bit as she walks though the hot air flowing off of it. "Uh, doing pretty well, I guess. Kind of a weird couple of days, but it's working out ok. I just got back in from Journey's, you haven't seen Leif around, have you? I just left a cooler of sushi for him on his porch."
6/26/2022 22:01:54 "I haven't seen Leif in a bit, but I'm sure I could nab him if I needed him." a pause, "Before I ask how things are with Journey, is everything ok? Whats been weird?" he wonders with genuine concern for his fellow kin.
6/26/2022 22:05:19 Jackie waves off his concern with a sheepish grin. "Oh, of course, everything's fine! I'm just... sorting through some new stuff. It's nothing bad, although I guess I need to learn to meditate now. But the rest... I just need a little time to get a handle on it. And speaking of handles, what are you working on there?"
6/26/2022 22:07:15 "Oh, I'm just practicing some blade work." Theron explains, "Working through some new stuff? Hm. Well if you need someone to work new stuff through with let me know." he offers to the other kin. He walks over to a bottle of water and grabs it, taking a sip and then pouring some more over his head, letting it drip down him.
6/26/2022 22:12:28 Jackie chuckles lightly at his emergency cooling procedure. "Yeah, it's a little warm in here, isn't it? Does it get easier to handle the more you get used to it? But as for my stuff... Well, Journey and Duck are already helping me out with it, and I want to get along a little further before I rope anyone else into it. But it's nothing to worry about, I promise."

"I dont even really notice it much any more...but then again, I've never been shy about enjoying a good sweat either." the kinfolk points out. "Just don't be shy about roping me in if you need it?" he suggests wiping some water from his brow as he just leans over the anvil.
6/26/2022 22:22:13 Jackie nods, brushing sweat from own forehead with her hand and wiping it on her jeans. "I promise, you'll be the first I tell, once I get it figured out a little better. But, uh, in the meantime, can you show me what you're doing? I have done some metal work, although with... let's call it a slightly different tool set? I do still want to try to make some throwing knives like I was talking about. That can't be too hard, can it?"
6/26/2022 22:24:12 "Sure of course." he explains and gestures her over. Then he grabs hold of some tongs to take the metal bit out of the forge and set it upon the anvil. "See the steel...its color? Thats how I know its ready to be worked. Too soft, moves too much, to cold it can get cracks in the forging it will be useless." he then hammers a few times for her to see the way he shapes the metal. "See how it moves? It takes alot of work...you'll get a hell of a workout." he then pauses to offer her the hammer.
6/26/2022 22:27:28 Jackie looks down at the hot steel, then cracks her knuckles and takes the hammer. It only dips slightly as she adjusts to its weight. She raises it and brings it down sharply, letting the weight of it help with the work while she guides it to the right spot. "Just trying to put on an edge on here, then?"
6/26/2022 22:29:28 "Dont worry about the edge as much as the shape right now." Theron explains, "You wont hammer it sharp...the sharpness will come through grinding." he adds. "But we need the right length, thickness and balance first." he gestures on where to hammer. "Go on you've got it." he stands close. Just out of her space to not interfere with her hammering, but close enough to direct her.
6/26/2022 22:35:22 Jackie leans over the anvil, blowing loose strands of hair out of her eyes as she adjusts her grip on the hammer and begins striking the metal again. She follows his guidance, beating the metal out along the length of the blade to be, trying to pound it out into the desired shape. The corner of her mouth quirks up at his explanation. "That's what sh- nope, never mind. Uhhhh... What's this going to be when it's done?"
6/26/2022 22:37:49 "Its just a practice knife." One hand moves to her hip, nudging her to shift position, "Cant work with just the arm you'll exhaust yourself." he lets go then after the adjustment. Not trying to give her the wrong idea although there is a moment he looks from the steel back to her but then right back to the steel. "I've created many blades...but Heirolf says, if I do not always train I will become a dull blade...and a dull blade is useless in battle."
6/26/2022 22:42:24 Jackie re-centers her position, shuffling her boots into position and planting herself in a better stance from his guidance. She keeps going, not out of juice yet but clearly showing more effects of the strain than he did after a much shorter time. Willing to take me on as a student when it was clear I wouldnt change...I wouldn't be garou." he adds. "Careful now...as you get tired you could get sloppy..." he warns.
6/26/2022 22:51:28 Jackie straightens up, stretching her back for a moment. She sets the hammer down and reaches both hands up to re-tie her loose hair back to keep it out of the way. "Yeah, ok. It's hard to take back mistakes in this kind of work, right? And that sounds cool. I didn't really have anyone like that myself, once we were all pretty sure I wouldn't change. Seems we were pushed towards different paths, huh?"
6/26/2022 22:54:01 "I consider myself very fortunate." he pauses her a moment and then takes the steel back to the forge to let it heat back up. Theron heads over to the water jug and offers it to her. "I had a path before me, and I took it with all I could."
6/26/2022 23:00:23 Jackie takes the jug, raising it in a small gesture of cheers before taking a sip, then a longer one as she realizes how much she needed the drink. Then she follows his earlier lead and pours a splash over her head with a small laugh. "Now I get why you'd want to do that. Shit, I'm already soaked here. But yeah, I think I get it. It's good to have... like a role, a purpose. Right?"
6/26/2022 23:02:25 Theron chuckles and messes her hair up a bit as after she dumps water over her head. Amused at how she followed suit. "God you dont know the half of it." he grins. "Yes, It is good to have a purpose...to do something and feel like you make an impact."

She pulls it back into her hair tie, getting a little more serious and nodding at his words. "Yeah... That's something I couldn't really find back h- back East. Here though? I think things are looking better. Not the same as yours, of course! You can keep all that monster slaying, I'll pass."

6/26/2022 23:15:53 "I imagine, if you fuck up against a Spiral you end up dead." Theron agrees with a grunt. He turns and pulls the steel out of the fire, she's managed to make it look vaguely knife shaped with his direction. He doesn't let her hammer it any more instead he steps over and dunks the metal into a vat of oil, cooling it and hardening it. Pulling it out he holds it up, "Slight warp...a cold stint on the one side...but not bad for your first hammering>' he compliments. He sets the knife down on the anvil and quickly is putting some large steel blocks on it to try and flatten it while its still semi warm. An attempt to remove the warp before it fully hardens.
6/26/2022 23:18:27 Jackie takes a step back, getting out of his way while he works. She steps back in to take a closer look once it's been pinned down. "Is there anything I should ty to avoid in my next hammering, then?"
6/26/2022 23:21:02 "Honestly? Sometimes it just happens. A hit at the wrong time, not the right temperature can effect it." Theron explains, "Variance in thickness of the metal...it could be a few things." he admits. "Crafting a blade is as much art as science."
