Through the angel rain
Through the dust and the gasoline
Through the cruelty of strangers
To the neon dream
Detonation Boulevard is a new shop on D and 5th in Prospect that specializes in instrument repair and rock n' roll memorabilia. Within its walls, you can find everything from bootleg tapes and CDs (with band approval) to vintage concert tees and posters. Its proprietrix, Janneke 'JJ' Johansen, also purchased a great deal of its former stock from the prior owners of Off the Record, so many of those darkwave, goth, industrial, postpunk, and other selections are blended right in among the hard rock, heavy metal, grunge, punk, and alternative.
Janneke does the repairs herself; simple fixes are done right there on site in the glassed-in work area, while more complex mending takes time and her larger private shop in the back (and off limits to the public).
The hours are somewhat erratic, but if the neon OPEN sign is lit, you're welcome, whether it's 10 am or midnight. Come on by, check out the vinyl, the bootlegs, the assortment of rare and hard-to-find counterculture books of all sorts, the concert promo posters... and hell, if you're lucky, maybe you'll score some of the fresh-baked treats JJ keeps on hand for customers while you listen to some vintage deep cuts in one of the two listening booths.
Two listening booths that seat two are made from old, red diner-style small booths. They are equipped with an audio setup to listen to vinyl discs, cassettes, or CDs inside the plexiglass walls before you purchase them. Use of the booths is given through keys at the front registers. They can also be used, in a pinch, to put on music and discuss private matters if necessity demands.
Note to Fae and Kinain
Kith and Kin who are in dire need of a place to sleep, a meal, or some small form of help can ask for JJ and get some help. This place offers a connection to the Right of Rescue -- all the owner asks is that it be done subtly, to allow mortals the Right to Dream.
