Branton is having the pack over to his place in town. Its actually fairly deep through the city to get to it, all the way down to the fancy houses near the southern marinas. When the house is arrived at its big but not any bigger than the other houses in the area, the style looks old but reasonably well maintained.
The front doors are an ornate set of wooden double doors and Branton totally does the Aragorn style push open. The impression of age continues inside, and a number of rooms only have furniture covered in cloth, obviously unused. Some of the doors down hallways off to either side are closed and it looks like they're blocked off by broad ribbons of rune embroidered silk "And this is Reeves Manor. Once home to the Reeves family cabal of the Order of Hermes, a group of willworkers that among other things had an impressive book collection."
Iris has been here before, but it's still impressive and she grins at their dramatic entry into the place. "I never get tired of the height of this place." she says with a grin, "I keep wondering what all these rooms and hallways go to, but, 'no exploring'. Alas!"
Isla walks in ahead of Jes. "Well, isnae this fancy. Fire Man, I dinnae expect this from ye, and yet it does kinda fit. SO who'd ye have to burn to get this?" She admires the height of the ceilings and the windows. "And ye have servants here? How safe are we to talk in here?"
Jes follows after Branton and looks around curiously, puffing on his Nat Sherman and casting interested eyes on the aged decor. "I feel like a house elf is gonna step out and ask to take my coat," he mutters, shifting the weight of the shopping bag he's toting along with him. He looks the rune-embroidered silk barriers over, peering, then asks, "Is that... Akkadian?"
Branton shakes his head at Isla "The willworker I was dating inherited it from the last of the Reeves line, she was engaged to him. Then when she decided to nope out of Prospect because it was too dangerous for her and her daughter she signed it over to me. I have people come in sometimes but no one that lives here but me. And even the people that come in to clean are kinfolk, or at least some sort of sorcerer or psychic." Then he nods to Iris "I'd told Iris no exploring because some of the rooms are sealed off and I've been able to figure out some of the runes, they're warning labels." Nodding at Jes "Some Akkadian, yeah. That one in particular gives you a mighty shock of you fiddle with the doorknob."
Oh snap, crazy runes and taser doorknobs? Iris sidles on over near that one and gets as close as she dares to just look the ribbon and the door knob over before turning a grin to Branton. All mischevious and hopeful. "Did some of the stuff you translated happen to show you the off button to any of them?" Unknown and dangerous rooms!
Isla aahs, "Well then, we follow ye, and not just try anything..." An eye to Jes, and then back before saying the obvious about electric fences. "So ye have runes all about. More to explore? Sounds like an adventure we could have fun at without needing to be covered in Yak."
"Then I won't fiddle with the doorknob," Jes replies in a murmur, shaking his head. "I saw something like that in a textbook. Kind of proud that I guessed right.". He puts out his cigarette, looking around and examining the archaic decor, and comments, "A psychic cleaning crew? Let me guess; you don't have to call them and tell them it's time to dust the library because they already know."
Branton nods slowly at Iris and considers "Yeah. I haven't found the Index yet though. So I'm not sure what's inside hardly any of them and since I barely use the rooms I can get to I wasn't in a particular rush to poke them." Grins broadly and nods at Isla "Sure we could. Some of them are probably bigger on the inside than the outside. Everytime I've tried to pace off the length of the house I've gotten a different number." Then he nods at Jes "A Foreseer partnered with a Telekinetic. Neither of them have particularly strong powers but they make a good bit at their business."
Iris claps her hands together and says, "Let's poke one!" without even thinking about what horrors may arrise from that. She waves her hands excitedly at the door and dances herself out of the way.
Isla hmms, "Sure, let's go check it out. Who knows what we can find here. Just no licking anything, or smoking it unless you know what it is." She will just keep alert, but does question the bigger on the inside than the outside. Dang.
"I feel like we're about to jump into a Scooby Gang mystery and I don't know if I'm Fred or Shaggy," Jes says to Isla, smirking slightly and setting down his shopping bag. "But hey, either way, like... zoinks, man, this is some real groovy stuff."
"Yeah but... But how are you gonna get a complete reading on something unless you lick it?" Iris asks totally seriously, and then tells Jes, "Shaggy. OH!" She opens her purse to find a worn but super purdy silky scarf, "Pretty sure we can make an ascot out of this for Branton."
Branton snickers and then looks at Iris and shakes his head "If you want to pick one out that I can get the things ready to unseal it sure. It takes a little doing so its not like I can walk over and rip down the ribbons. Well we could but we probably shouldn't. The most likely ones is taser one, the one that the doorknob shakes and growls when you walk by, or the one that always has condensation on it. Like its cold."
Iris gets back into pose order by looking to Isla when decision time comes up.
Isla pats Jes on the back, "C'mon Shaggy, let's find ye some Scooby Snacks." She hears all that is mentioned of doorknobs and yeah, she's going to let them test things this go around.
Jes scratches his beard scruff and says, "Sure, Shaggy it is. Like, zoinks, man. I think I left the Scooby Snacks back at the dispensary though." He looks to his shopping bag, then shrugs and says, "I'll give you guys that shit later. For now, Haunted Mansion."
Branton shrugs and walks over to the one he mentioned that would shock you, since its closest "If you want to give them a look over before I hit the archives for an unsealing spell that works. This is the taser door. The growling one is in a different hallway across the main hall, the cold one is four doors further down this hall on the other side."
Isla looks at each door. She does not like the potential zappy one, or the cold one. But the growly one seems like something that she understand more and can handle first. "Let's take it easier at first. If something is growling in there. Be ready. Let's go." She tosses her hair back and moves toward that door.
Iris is of course very happy to follow along and help out a bit. She listens very closely to the ribbon, there's probably a brief argument about that whole licking things thing, but she ends up not doing that. "Well the zappy one is a crazy fucking door, that's for certain. Like, I betcha anything there is some weird shit in there. I'm not getting anything too chaotic from the other two though." She nods her head and gets her bow up and ready with an arrow knocked but not drawn. "Be ready for anything. I saw Beauty and the Beast recently, and that furniture was fucking dangerous."
Branton nods and holds up a hand "I'll get to work on digging the right unsealing spell out of the archives. And I'll let you all know when its ready. This isn't something we can just do right now though."
Iris lowers her bow and says, "...Oh. In that case, I'm gonna go sand that rock a bit more! You guys should see it, it's nearly round!""
