History

I ,Alexander Varges was born in the small city of Cumberland Main USA on June 15th 1919; a child of the post ‘Great War’ era or so everyone else believed. By the time of his 18th birthday the fuels of war were beginning to burn in Europe once again, so that was when he was given his first taste of Kindred blood. The Varges family’s legacy of being devoted ghouls to Toreador in the area continued, with great hope and desire, with Alex. And so he served the Toreadors of the city for the next seven years, being swept into the Kindred world with the ease and elegance of his masters. But things change when you are only a possession, no matter how prized. In 1943 Alex’s Domitor was under social attack and it didn't take long for various outlandish occurrences to be laid at his master’s feet. As part of the punishment Alex was given to a new Master, the Primmogen of the Brujah who couldn't stand the manner in which this prized ghoul had been indoctrinated by the Toreadors. So when the US was calling for soldiers to aid in the second Great War, Alex was enlisted for the Airborne. Whether it was to get rid of the ghoul, to harden him, or simply put some space between him and his previous master Alex never did figure out.

Through the course of the war Alex would find packages of mail waiting for him at random cities in Europe, each time containing a flask of kindred vitae to keep him going at his best; that blood is probably one of the few things that allowed him to live through battles where so many of his comrades fell. Each time the 506th airborne division was supposed to be pulled out of the fighting we kept getting put right back into the thick of things, Varges never did learn that ultimately it was his Brujah master that was pulling the military strings and pushing his prized ghoul further and further along, priming him to become a Brujah Neonate. Ah, but the best laid plans of mice and men can sometimes have the same outcome of even the most careful Kindred.

When the European theater of the war was finished Alex thought his master had finally wished him to return. Upon his arrival back in Cumberland it was revealed that Alex had once again been traded to a new master as the result of his Brujah owner’s failed attempt to vie for Prince in a coup. Upon returning Alexander Varges was handed to the local Nosferatu clan, as a reward for informing the prince of the planned coup.

It was while in the service of his new clan that Varges found his true calling in espionage and secrecy, a fitting thing for a ghoul of his current clan. It didn't take much for Alex to be accepted into the recently formed CIA, they needed people and with his previous war experience; he had no problem passing the entrance exams. Once again Alex was away from his home city though this time he was in constant communication with his master, sending information back to his master’s clan and keeping the secret keepers informed of every assignment he was sent on for as long as he could.

It was during a long period of being undercover as a broker for a mob boss in New York that Alex had to walk away from his intelligence work. A massive shootout erupted when federal agents rushed into Italian mobsters buildings, too many people saw Alexander get gunned down for it to easily be forgotten, only his masters blood kept him from dying that night. So once again Alex returned to Cumberland.

With this prized ghoul once again back in the city the question on everyone’s lips was who would get him now, was he to stay with the Nausferatu? That is when Reagent Brin finally plaid this hand after waiting close to thirty years. %r %R While Alexander Varges had originally been owned by a Toreador, it was Brin that laid social siege to the first owner after the ghoul had been brought up in the social world of the Kindred. It is true that Alex’s shipment off to war was not an expected move but Brin took this time to harden the ghoul for the trials that were yet to come. While Alex’s master had left him for dead Brin made sure to keep the ghoul’s sustenance flowing and, in time, have him returned to the city after he whispered the idea of the coup to the Brujah and then leaking it to the Nosferatu, expecting the ghoul to end up with them because of it. It was no surprise that the ghoul was trained in the secrecy of the clan, and developed a lot of experience in the cloak and dagger field. So when Alexander Varges returned to his city of birth Reagent Brin wasted no time in calling upon the boons owed to him so that he could claim the ghoul which he had been shaping for the last thirty-seven years, and the requesting the right to Sire.

The following nine years Varges spent hidden away, learning the ways of the Tremere and preparing him for what Reagent Brin knew was coming. In 1965 the world’s eyes were once again focused on war, this time in the country of Vietnam. For the previous nine years Alexander Varges had been prepared for this, his experiences with combat, espionage, and deception were to be tested as he was sent back into a war zone despite the unorthodox placement of a member of clan Tremere, but Brin knew what he was getting the Neonate into; one final lesson before the big test.

So it was while in this war that Alexander learned how to continue a life with the kind while feeding and moving towards his objective and taking in setbacks. The experience of being in unknown situations and having to adapt became second nature to him as every night his goals were adjusted, that was also where he had his first true encounter with the Sabbat. With the seemingly random attack on outposts at night, waves of Cong troops rushing in with little care for their safety, and the seemingly endless amount of troops; it was no doubt that the Sabbat were behind the Vietcong troops and Alex was in the middle of it night after night. With all of this Alex honed his ability to improvise his surrounding equipment. It didn’t take him long to develop new forms of tools to help him survive in the constant battles: improving his weapons, developing new methods of noticing enemies, even enhancing the excuse for armor that was given to him by his quarter master. His technical skills in addition to the training he’d received as a ghoul and as a Tremere were tested regularly during his time in Vietnam, but all for a good reason.

When the war came to a close and Alex was called back home by his Sire it all became clear to him. Reagent Brin had been developing a new Thaumaturgy ritual and it was now time for its field testing. Brin had found that for unknown reasons some kine and kindred alike were able to resist the blood bond that is so empowering to kindred society. The ritual that was to be tested replicated this abnormality in the target of the sorcery and Alex was to use it to help the Camarilla with the increasing pushes from the Sabbat in North America.

So that was it, all of his priming as a ghoul was for this. His learning of etiquette and kindred dealings with the Toreador, his combat training from the Brujah, and his covert ways from the Nosferatu were all coming to a clear point as Brin revealed the Neonates purpose.

It’s impossible to explain how nervous he was the first time the cup was passed around when he was being indoctrinated into his first Sabbat pack, but his confidence grew each time as he knew Reagent Brin’s magic was protecting him. Varges’ job was simple: inform the Camarilla of any important attacks his pack was going to be involved in, he couldn’t stop every one or it would have been too suspicious, and to work his way higher in the ranks in hopes of eliminating key Sabbat figures.

Over the following fourty years Alex was in and out of Sabbat packs, each time being safeguarded by his Sire while he risked his life to inform the Camarilla and work from the inside to help destroy the Sabbat. The hardest part was to consider himself still a Tremere, at time he would spend more time away from his Sire, pretending to fight against him, than at his side learning what he could about his clan’s teachings; something that was not missed by his clan mates who did what Tremere are supposed to do: study hard and keep to the back of the spotlight, something that many of his brothers and sisters grew to scorn him for.

However, as time grew on Reagent Brin chose to end this experiment and called Alex back to the chantry to inform him of the termination of his entrenchment with the Sabbat. Alex had his thoughts as to why this choice was made: his rival students were able to convince the Reagent, perhaps Reagent Brin thought it was tainting his child, or maybe Brin thought it was time for Alex to take up a normal role as a Tremere since he was starting to outgrow his Neonate status. None the less Brin never informed Alex why he was called back, even more he never fully explained why Alex was being sent to another city

LIFE IN NEW ORLEANS
(the following are all IC events that took place on the MUSH Cajun Nights)

It was in the City of New Orleans that Alex found himself coming truly into his own. As he served in the ‘Big Easy’ he was constantly challenged for not being a proper Tremere as he stuck to his ingrained military training; which both turned to be his greatest strength and ultimate downfall. During the few years he spent in the City the young Tremere served as Primogen (mostly due to no others being there to represent his clan) Sheriff, and even a role the Prince made specifically for him: Hound.

Sadly it all culminated when he revealed to the Prince the plan he had devised to track down an exiled Nausferatu Elder and claim the blood hunt that others had failed to finish before the elder was able to flee the city; Varges did not know the elder was a dear friend to the Prince…

As in all great stories there is, of coerce, a girl. In this case Madeline Blanchard was a jewel in the Tremere’s eyes but one that, due to social boundaries of the Camarilla and her precarious status, a jewel that he could never claim as his own no matter how much they both wanted it to be. So as things looked dire for the non-typical Tremere it was unknown to him that the woman he longed for was pulling the string to keep him alive, or as close as a Kindred can be.

With his mind detoured from killing Varges the Prince settled on exiling the neonate, but the House of Tremere would not have their weapon simply sheathed and laid aside. And so with his mission in New Orleans labled as a failure Varges was quickly reassigned to the warzones he was more familiar with, and as such, sent to the sprawling City of Hope, California. With the Camarilla presence there dwindling and the other factions of the night quickly taking over the city he knew this assignment was as close to a death sentence as could be given without an executioner; but least he’d have a fighting chance to make his own way of things.
