"Chosen by the Warder to help patrol the caern and make certain that no one enters the bawn without the knowledge of the sept, the Guardians usually consist of one or more packs under the Warder's authority. In general, a sept has five Guardians (or the equivalent of one pack) for each level of the caern, provided there are enough Garou to go around.

Guardians act as the first line of active defense in the event of attacks against the caern. They range primarily on the edges of the bawn, making certain that no minions of the Wyrm or other hostile creatures cross into the territory of the caern. Guardians work closely with the Warder, and most Garou take this opportunity to learn as much as they can from the caern's expert battle master. When the time comes for the sept to select a new Warder, werewolves that have proven themselves as Guardians usually stand a good chance for the position."

Patrols

Guardian Pack

By the book the guardian pack are the only Garou who do patrols. The books as written were never meant to account for communities the size of the Sept of Enduring Spirit. It is generally assumed that there is a Guardian pack but they are the Warder’s mobile reserve and rapid response team that’s dispatched if one of the regular patrols gets overrun.

Patrol Structure

Each Patrol group will be composed of four to six members. One of which, the designated Patrol Leader, will always be a Garou between Fostern and Athro Rank. There may be some kinfolk involvement as well but never more than one or maybe two. There will only be two permitted if there are four shifters that are not cubs.

Patrol Leaders

Must be Garou. Between Fostern(2) and Athro(4) Rank. Must have Patrol Captain’s approval (or be an Elder Garou substituting for an existing patrol leader). The current Roster is not an exclusive list. If you would like to be added to the list below, speak to the Patrol Captain. (@mail is your friend)

No Elders as Patrol Leaders?

Elders are not on the schedule. They're considered to have Elder-ish stuff to do. There may be times that an Elder decides to show up and cover a shift. Give a patrol leader a break. but that'll be the exception rather than the rule.

Chain of Command

Patrol Leaders answer to the Patrol Captain, who answers to the Warder, who answers to the Grand Elder. The Keeper of the Land and the Wyrmfoe also are consulted in general but they have no direct authority.

Where do I find a Patrol?

In general, patrols are something taking place 24/7 off camera. Being approved to participate gives you something to RP about with others. You can meet others and say you just returned from a patrol. If you need to leave, you can say that you need to go meet up for a patrol. In general, issues found on patrols would be where PRPs would come in.

A patrol PRP should use the Patrol Depot as its rally point, not the Mystic Valley, where the current jump point is when you go to the Caern. To get there type: +dir/jump caern - then: O - then: PD

REMINDER A patrol is around the bawn, as it is for protection. PRPs that take place in the city are 'ops' or 'missions' - not a patrol.

How do I get involved/approved?

  • Garou: All Garou are expected to give time to go on patrols. If you are new to the Sept/game, you need to be checked out by the Warder, and would be excellent to speak to the Patrol Captain and/or Wyrmfoe about joining in on patrols.

  • Fera: All Fera/non-Garou Gaian Shifters that would like to assist with patrols of the bawn are welcome to volunteer. Before you go out on any patrol, you need to meet with the Patrol Captain and/or Wyrmfoe for approval.

  • Kinfolk: Yes, we allow Kinfolk of any Gaian Shifters that would like to assist with patrols of the bawn to participate. It is more limited as to how many can go out on a given patrol, and they must have skills to do more than hide. Be prepared to answer more questions than others if you wish to participate. Meet with the Patrol Captain and/or Wyrmfoe for approval.

~*~ SPECIAL NOTE - Females that are pregnant should not be going on patrols. Your duty is to Gaia and bringing the child into the world.

All Patrol Leaders should check the list to be sure that someone is approved before leaving the Patrol Depot with your group.

Patrol PRPs

Now that I am approved, how do I get into a patrol?

OOCly - Watch +events, or ask on Garou/Gaian Channels if anyone is interested in or planning to run one. Speak to the Patrol Leaders listed as well. Check out the Renown Reports published and see who is participating in PRPs and simply ask who ran it and how you can get involved. If you do not ask, you may not find out.

ICly - Taking a trip to the Caern, to see if there are spaces available is an excellent idea. Asking IC when you are in a Gaian location to people is also a good idea.

BEING A LEADER LISTED HERE DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THEY ARE ROUTINELY RUNNING THINGS. REAL LIFE HAPPENS, AND IT DOES TAKE A LOT OF EFFORT TO PUT ONE OF THESE PATROLS ON. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

Do's and Don't's

A NOTE TO ALL STs: The Bawn and Caern are patrolled and protected 24/7. If you are planning to run a PRP where there is an infiltration attempt, or attack on it, then talk to STAFF first. Better suggestion is - run your PRP taking place at ANOTHER Caern for ANOTHER Sept. Doing it here for the Sept of the Enduring Spirit will cause SPHERE WIDE ripple effects. Not that it cannot happen, but STAFF must approve of it first.

Check out the area on grid before you run something as well. We have Cabins for Cubs and Cliaths to live at near the bawn, and they are patrolled as well. Again, bringing something to happen there will also have SPHERE WIDE ripple effects. Not that it cannot happen, but get permission first.

Want to go take a patrol into the city to check out a Wyrm infestation? Or report of trouble? Sure, you can. Remember - that would be a mission, not a patrol. Until there is a Caern in the city, there is no need for a patrol to protect it. That does not stop you from taking a group and checking it out since we have so many Gaians that live there. Just know your terminology, because then you are no longer reporting back to the Patrol Captain, etc.

Do you want to run something for specific people? Are you looking to have something specifically happen to your PC? Especially if it is what could be seen as 'negative attention' - getting taken down a rank, denounced, or some other punishment - talk to the leadership OOC first. Taking on those roles of leadership is a responsibility, but they also do not like to be totally blindsided by it. Reach out and let them know that you wish for this to happen FIRST. You do not need to give away all the details, but bringing people into stories without their consent is off putting.

Renown

You can gain renown for Guarding the Caern, 1 Honor, once a month. It is available for all that +renownreq for it, but for no more than the past 2 months.

If you go on a Patrol PRP, one person should be designated to put in renown for whatever happened during that PRP. Be sure there is a log made of it, and made available either on the wiki, or pastebin, or something equivalent so staff can read it. Check out the Renown page for instructions for how to request it and what it can be. Take into account if you have Fera or Kinfolk involved, as it will be different for them.

QUESTIONS? Just ask one of the Leaders listed on this page.
