Setting

This scene takes place shortly after the events of A Spear in the Deep 2

Scene

The crew, having decided to help Goggen Ironfoot gain justice for his lady lurv, has run out of steam when it comes to the official discourse. However, even with official discourse being over that doesn't mean Goggen and the others are going to hike up their trousers, stalk to the Invictus and sail off right since only BUSINESS is what they are here for? Heck no.

Hence why the rum continues to flow between the crew of the Invictus and the Journeyman. Conversation is still had, but it is light. Do this, ever done that, seen this and so on. For Goggen's sake, he has decided to loom over the rail of the Journeyman that looks out toward the open ocean holding his /cup/ of rum.

As for rum and Clover, the girl hasn't had too much herself, but she's had just enough to get herself a bit more relaxed. She's finishing off a snack while listening to the chatter, and after casting a glance up towards Lark in the nest she's heading towards it.. but oh, to spy a looming Goggen! Clover turns to change her direction, and she starts to creep her way towards Goggen. Poor guy!

Erin is down here and she does take a sip as she tries to be social, She takes a breath and looks to Goggen "Would it be too much to ask how you and your lovely lady met? I bet that would be quite the story" she gives him a little smile.

Wick has managed to keep from having more than just the one cup of rum. After all, he'll soon have a ship to steer. He does his best to keep himself busy, studying the maps and the course he'll soon be called on to plot. But catching the question Erin poses, he can't help but peek over towards Captain Goggin.

Goggen turns to look at Erin, the Boggan raising a bushy eyebrow as one hand is tucked in his overall's pocket. "What? What's all this?" His ear twitches and the Boggan eyes the creeping Clover but it's parlay! So everything is fine right? No. He drops a nuke and GAME OVER. "How me and my Ronnie met? It's quite a tale, but not the most casual tale either." He warns. "It's a war story, and all war stories have their good parts and unsettlin' parts. depends on you of course how unsettlin' 'tis!" He takes another swig of his rum.

Erin glances to Clover a moment before she nods "Well all stories and life tend to have the good and unsettling parts. But if your willing to share, I would love to hear" she nodsnods.

With hands tucked behind her back, Clover keeps'a creepin, and when she's spied by Goggen she gives him a bright, friendly smile. Her head tilts slightly and she inches closer, saying, "Ya know.. I was kinda curious about that, too.." Her gaze darts over towards Wick and she grins at him, giving a subtle 'come here' motion of her hands towards him before she looks back towards Erin and Goggen. "I'd love to hear about it, too." Wick hesitates a little as Goggin warns them the love story is more of a war story. But even still, catching Clover's subtle motion for him to approach the Satyr can't quite help but drift over. He lingers at her side, gazing up at Goggin with a hint of shyness. "How long ago? How long were... were you together?" he murmurs.

Bosun Cicada, probably much to the chagrin of the poor Captains, has had a liberal amount rum already and seems to be attempting to escalate 'jovility'of some of the more bawdy sailors from the other crew. "Ikimashou! Nomou!" She giggles, sloshing her rum, encouraging one of Goggen's crew to drink more as she passed by, slapping the side of the deck heartily and cheering. "Kampai!" Her carousing eventually brings her wobbling over to where other members of the journeyman had gathered 'round the old weathered captain of the other vessel. The sudden quiet of that space causes her to hiccup out of shock.

Maggy'd continued to peruse and enjoy the rum. Amongst the chitter-and-chatter; an intent listening drawn upon the hearing of folks. She knows better than to interrupt such a sudden still with any words - but can't help filling the little bit of quiet awkwardness that's holding with a little sluuuuuuurp from a rum-filled cup. Elsewise lounging near-ish to the group with a lackadaisical fanfare.

Goggan nods, seeming now to have attracted a crowd. "How long? Dare say close to 41 years?" His good eye looks up at the sky as if needing to remember. As people begin to gather around for storytime the aged Boggan gives a good eye to the crew that slowly begin to congregate before he says. "Alright! A'right. I ain't no Eshu, but I know when people are itchin' for a tale 'er two. Pop a squat and fetch me an additional batch of rum." He says.

"June of '69, was when I first met Ronnie. 'Twas me an mah Motley on the Invictus then, before she was the Invictus. Ye gotta understand - before the Sidhe, there wasn't much for us. No Freeholds or Balefires or nuffin. So the vast majority of us was fully integrated with the people-folk. Jobs, professions, the like. Us? We wanted ta be on the sea. To see the world, not just our little corner of it so we took a job as sailors. That either meant bein' military folk r' bein' in trade - shippin stuff from one end of earth to another. Us? The latter. I had just gotten my first commission, captain of...we'll call it the Pre-Invictus," He looks to the Invictus, then back to the group, "When we came across a shipwreck. Parts thrown from one end o' the horizon to the next. And! Wouldn'tcha know it, a survivor amongst the wreckage. When we first plucked her out of the water we knew her fer what she was. Soldier, fightin' the Sidhe. Had the colors they used back then to tell each other they were fighter's under the Sidhe' notice. As for us? Me and mind ain't never -seen- a Sidhe before, let alone be fightin' in a war with them. We mostly heard about it from ports and the like, whisperin' about the Sidhe takin' over and the Nobles rallying to oppress the Commoners and the Commoners' revoltin'. We was just shippers' n' fishermen' at the time."

Clover glances to Wick again once he's by her side, and she gives him a quick smile before it's back to watching Googgen. She reaches over to tug at Wick's arm to pull him in closer for the tale they are about to hear, and when Goggen starts she gives a little squeal, shoulders trembling with her excitement. Clover plops down onto the ground (still tugging at Wick, too!) and she crosses her legs, ready for story time! Her eyes widen with her smile and she gives a little gasp when hearing about the wrecked ship. "So romantic.." she whispers, completely goo-goo eyed for the start of the tale.

Erin guestures for someone to get him more rum as she actually sits down to hear the tale. She listens quietly looking rather curious.

Cicada tild her head when the tale was rich with all a manner of history and intrigue. Even if the Hsien didn't have the understanding of these things contextually, they nevertheless lean in all the more intrigued. "Um... how did you get your magic-- Um. Glamour! How did you get it before there were balefires?" Cicada asks curiously. "There was a big war?" Of course a Hsien wouldn't know much about that.

Goggan nods, seeming now to have attracted a crowd. "How long? Dare say close to 41 years?" His good eye looks up at the sky as if needing to remember. How did you get it before there were balefires?" Cicada asks curiously. "There was a big war?" Of course a Hsien wouldn't know much about that.

Maggy sluuuuurps again. With no one moving to get the Boggan his booze...she knows the importance one has to have the right drink on hand. Lest their throat go parched during the recounting. Scooting herself up with a hop onto her feet - she slips through the gathered crowd, and procures another batch of the -good- stuff for the Boggan. Delivering it with a swift settle near them; only to drift back to her lounge spot.

Wick's eyes widen at such a number of years. And the Satyr rather glows at the thought of the lovers having been together for so long. He nods with eagerness, indeed so very keen for a tale. He settles in closer at Clover's side as he settles down on the deck, wrapping an arm around hers. The stars in his eyes shine as the story unfolds. His eyes widen as the story reaches the moment when they pluck out the shipwreck surviver from the water. His gaze flits to Cicada with her question. The Satyr looks curious. Either he hasn't learned yet - or he has forgotten his lessons.

"Few n' far between." Goggen answers Cicada. "Oftentimes, not at all. Lest you find a dreamer r' two, you were dead-sail for glamour." He says to Cicada. "Or you found a cache of Dross, but nothing would cause bloodshed faster than a cache of Dross. And guaranteed, if you found one, 4 Motleys heard of you getting it before you yourself actually get it." He snorts. But! Back to the story.

"Ronnie was unconscious and bruised pretty bad, took her a full day of recovery before she even came to. She was woozy at first, thinkin' we was Sidhe soldiers and she was a captive but we convinced her we were straight. Just fisher's. She told us that Duke Rhodric Wyl ap Gwydion was hunting her on the sea. Found their ship and demanded they kneel in fealty and he would spare them - they refused n' Rhodric blew them up leaving them as the sole survivor. She needed ta get back to Washington State, which is where she n' hers was porting. Me of course, I saw this lovely lady and was like 'yeah yeah! Okay! sure! Let me go into the breach to make you happy' while all my crewmen were tellin me no. If we get involved in the war we'd be riskin' life n' limb. Best keep to the sea. Keep our nose to the ground. The Nobles'll ignore us. But! I convinced them. After a bit of feudin' we made fer Seattle."

Erin can't help but to smile as she nods as he tells the part about wanting to help her and that he convinced the crew to set out to Seattle. She leans back a little bit as she continues to listen. She seems rather curious about how this goes.

Goggen nods. "Righ'. So. Off we go to Seattle. We get two days off of port when we get tagged by this floating gem of a ship as if someone sculpted water out of a gemstone. Beautiful ship it was, magical than anything I'd seen in my youth. That's when -we- met Rhodric of the Gwydion, who was looking for 'traitors' and 'rebels' and demanded our assistance in finding them. We told them that we were fishermen and trader, n' we have nothing against them n' just wanted to continue on our way...but the fucking Sidhe said he liked the cut of our jib! Said he was claiming our ship for himself! And that we were to turn it over to him. We told him no, that this was all we had and if I lost my commission it'd be all over for us. He didn't care and held us at swordpoint - taking us prisoners for denying him!

Clover's arm tightens against Wick's as she hears of how the found Ronnie and then found the Sidhe who wanted the ship, and she tenses! And Eeks! She leans forwards, eyes wide as can be, and she gasps when hearing they were held at swordpoint. "Then what happened?! Did Ronnie fight him!?" she can't help but ask. She wiggles slightly where she sits, so invested in the story!

Cicada's eyes widen as dross was contextualized. Even half-way to pickling herself, that sunk in. "Ohhh! No wonder people are so willing to go root around in the garbage for it!" She snaps her fingers. WHen Maggy re-emerges with the rum as an offering for the ship's guest Cicada seems pleased by this. "Ee de~." She produces a clean mug and pours out the rum before passing it towards Goggen. "Are all these Sidhe nobles, then? And they just think they can take your stuff?"

Erin bites her lip as they get caught and told they will be prisoners. She sways a little bit as she adjust so she can bring her knees up to her chest as she is keeps listening when the others speak she looks at them a second before looking back to Goggen.

Goggen nods to Cicada. "Aye. They did. They are the Lords of the Dreamin', or so they call themselves. They say it's theirs, it's theirs. Don't ask my why they think it ACTUALLY works...but they do." He says giving a shrug of his shoulders. "No. I did. Just me. Rhodric was trying to take my crew prisoner and I wouldn't let him take 'em. They didn't do nuffin'. So I took my harpoon and gave the devil it's due. I shot Rhodric with a harpoon and dragged 'im to the propellors under the Invictus and killed his aides, with the help of my crew." He says. "I fainted afterwards. I ain' never seen so much blood before. I ain' never been in a fight before, let alone killed someone...but I did. I killed a man and his crew. A Sidhe no less. A few of us vomitted, but I fainted." He scratches the back of his neck. "I woke up in mah cabin and Ronnie was taking care of my cabin, looking at me like i was a hero. Telling me that I did Rhodric's victims justice- as it wasn't the first time Rhodric killed Commoners who defied him. She told me how it would just keep happening, and they would keep coming...especially now. So..." Goggen shrugged. "I joined the war. Ronnie all but demanded she be my first mate. And the rest of our story is history."

Wick's brows furrow a bit as Goggen describes the Sidhe attempting to steal what was rightfully theirs. As close as he might be with some nobility, and even some Sidhe, it seems he still doesn't care for Sidhe such as that in the slightest. But still, he catches his lower lip at all the bloodshed that followed. He tilts his head to rest his cheek against the top of Clover's head. But as love blossoms even amidst such chaos and violence, he smiles. "And... and then... you were together for so long. That's such a rare thing," he murmurs.

By the end pf the story, Clover has her elbows propped on her knees and her chin resting on her palms, and there's a dreamy look in her eyes. She sighs and tilts her head a bit more to bonk it gently against Wick's cheek, and she coos, "That's so sweet.. Awwww. So sweet." Another sigh! She starts to giggle a bit, and she nods to what Wick says. "That's a long time! Wow.." She pauses then and looks at Goggen, wondering hesitantly, "How long has she been gone now?"

Erin mutters something about Sidhe and something or antother. She nods "Oh you poor thing, but that was nice of her to take care of you and stand at your side. So did you guys actually get married or just well been together in sea?"

"It sounds like you delivered his karma to him." Cicada said with a grin of sharp teeth that relaxes into a smirk at the sound of a gruesome end. She peers over to Erin making an expression that seemed confused. "Marriage? Why be so political about it. The sea bore witness." She turns to hear from Goggen though if there was indeed a wedding.

Goggen frowns. "Two months, eighteen days, 5 hours." He says, telling Wick the precise answer of how long Ronnie has been gone. When Erin asks if they got married Goggen laughs. "I call it marriage! It was more like a kidnapping. It was shortly after the war ended and the False David gave his whole pledge and Parliament and what-not. I was figuring out what to do with myself, since I lost my job and all and was, technically, a thief of a cargo carrier. Couldn't go back to honest labor. Not after that. Then Ronnie came up to me and said," He looks over to one of the Trolls, "'Ey! Tell 'em what Ronnie told me! When we got married!"

The Troll looks at the gathered group and smirks. In a very low, rumbling tone that only Trolls carry he forces his voice to squeak. "'Oy! You gonna marry me or what??"

Goggen laughs. "To which I said 'Wha? Well I-I was thinking about it-" He points to the Troll.

"You Boggans n' yer thinkin! We're gettin' married."

Goggen laughs. "To which I said 'But we ain' got no money! We can't get married and she said." To the Troll.

"Yer a Captain. MARRY ME!"

Goggen chuckles. "So I got the crew together and it went like this: 'Do you-"

The Troll interrupts. "YES."

Goggen says "Do I-"

The troll says. "YOU BETTER."

Goggen laughs. "And that is how we were married."

Wick catches his lower lip, pained at how Goggen counts the very hours. The Satyr's arms tighten a bit around Clover's arm. "And... and taken so suddenly..." he murmurs. He can't help but smile with the story of the marriage proposal. He even laughs. But then quieting, he hesitates. "Have... have you... ever heard of the Spring arts? What... what they can do?"

Clover frowns for a moment when she hears that it hasn't been long at all, and she watches the man with sympathy in her gaze. She squeezes Wick's arm in return and shifts so she can lean up against him and wrap him up in a big side hug, and as she listens about the marriage and how it went she starts to giggle softly. "That's so cutttteee.. and dreamy and just all sorts of perfect.. Huh, Ollie?" she asks, nudging him as she smiles more. Yeah, she's a sucker for romance! Her head goes tilting slightly again when Wick asks his question, and she glances back to Goggen.

Erin listens to that and can't help but giggle at that "Well that's a way to get someone to marry . I will have to keep that in mind" she smiles then looks over to Clover then back to Boggan "It's really cute"

Goggen eyes Wick when he asks about whether he knows about what the Spring Art can do. "I know what it can do lad...n' No." He says. "Ronnie's gone. As much as i'd wanna see her again...no." Goggen shakes his head. "No." The words sounding more like he is convincing himself of 'no' than him actually refusing. Goggen refuses to let himself be one of those people who end up getting attached to the dead. "Ronnie's waitin' fer me. That's all that matters. I'm pretty sure she'll be knocking out Davy Jones to make way for my arrival."

Wick smiles at Clover with an affectionate warmth, as much the sucker for romance as she is. And he even grins off at Erin. But then gazing back up at Goggen, he grows solemn and gives a small nod. "I'm sure she's waiting for you. In another life - you'll find each other again. And. Our crew... we'll at least... set things right. As much as possible."

Clover's nose gives a little wiggle as she listens to Goggen, and then it's a slooowww look to Wick, and a sloooww look back to the man. She does it a few times and then gives the smallest nod as she gently bites into her lower lip. She's quiet for a moment before she says to the man, "I'm sorry all of that happened.. but yeah. I hope you're able to find her again." She smiles softer at that.

Goggen gives a brief nod. "It's alright. Ronnie left me two kids all of our own. Look the spitting image of their mother they do." Granted, they are all adults now, but that's not the point. When they say that they will do right by Ronnie he nods. "That's all I want."

Cicada nods and then clears her throat as if to remind Goggen he'd been poured alcohol some time ago. "Sencho-Gogen!" She hiccups and holds up her own glass. "To Ronnie! Kanpai!"

Erin sagely nods "yeah kids are great and wonderful reminders.. She will not have you till it's your time and she's waiting and watching over you I am so sure of that" she winks then wraps her arms around her legs "Quite the love story you have there"

Wick brightens at the mention of children. And he gives another nod. "We won't fail you." He brightens further still as Cicada lifts her cup. He doesn't have one of his own to lift, but he joins in the sentiment. but alas. He can't linger much longer. He needs to go and prepare to set sail. Pressing a light kiss to the side of Clover's head, he rises and offers Goggin a deep nod. "Thank you so much for the story. It was wonderful."

"To Ronnie!" Clover echos, lifting her invisible glass before she's glancing to Wick and smiling. She waggles her brows at him and then giggles, drinking her imaginary drink and even giving a satisfied, "Ahh!" once it's down. The young woman then rises to her feet and dusts her bum off, and she says, "Yes.. Thank you for telling us. It's so sweet. I love it." Not -all-, but.. ya know. The whole dying part sucked.
