Astra is typing away on one of the machines, sending a set of complicated instructions to one of the 3D Printers, which beeps and starts working. From the noises it's making it's much happier about whatever it's building than it was last time, "Good Boy!" Astra says proudly as she pats the top of the machine.
Having recently notified her friend and techie extraordinaire Astra of the field test of the VR Rig done on the 19th and gotten a request back to meet at the Nexus, Vic grabbed everything needed for said meeting and took the Express out and slipped past anyone in the main rooms to go to the computer lab.
Upon Vic's entrance it is clear she's laden down more than normal. In addition to her customary messenger bag resting across her back on its shoulder strap another bag hangs from the other shoulder: a large nylon duffel that Astra had provided the rig in for easy transport. Seeing Astra at the 3D printer, Vic smiles. "Hey there Astra!" she says excitedly as she moves to set the duffel down near the sorcerer-engineer. One she's done so she rubs at her shoulder as if it is slightly sore from the weight it was carrying.
Astra winces a little when she sees Vic come in and moves to hug her gently, "Hi Vic! I'm getting a vibe like your going to complain that the suit's too heavy?" she says worriedly, "We can try to find a lighter suspension frame, and I finally figured out how to build all the sensors and feedback systems into simple three layer dots that should make the next version much lighter!" She explains as she helps lift of the duffel bag to relieve Vic of the weight.
Vic laughs and shakes her head. "Oh, no such complaint. The problem is how /well/ the whole suit worked. The haptic feedback worked so well that when 'Jason' slashed me shoulder to hip that it left my shoulder sore. I'm still recovering," she explains after returning the hug. "However, if you /want/ to lighten down the suit I'll not complain about that either," she adds with another grin.
"It shouldn't be able to cause injury..." Astra says worriedly, looking Vic over again, it certainly doesn't look like she was slashed!? "You mean like, Hockey Mask Jason right?" She says as she squints one eye, sitting down and pulling the suit out of the bag to inspect the shoulder, "This seems intact.. no sign of it overloading." She says ash she stretched the sleeve out in the light, "Still, I wouldn't recommend Horror Movie Simulations for testing prototypes." She smirks, "Are you alright?"
Vic nods. "Yeah, I'm fine. Apparently all the corrupt sectors are tied to some horror film or set of films," she explains. "Rufus figured out that we had to use the corruption against itself... had Jason kill the woman who represented the node's corruption and... well, cleansed sector was the result."
Astra takes a breath, "I think I understood that. Can I assume it means that whatever happened in there was more the result of being in a bad spot on the umbral reflection of the internet and not some horrible flaw in my design that I don't know about?" She asks hopefully, "And is there anything I can do to keep something like this from happening to you again?"
"Yeah, we were in the Digital Web," Vic answers confirming the location. "The design worked perfectly but perhaps we need to re-balance the haptic feedback to provide tactile sensations but strengthen the filtering of the feedback for injuries perhaps?"
Astra smiles, "This sounds like the part where I need to consult with the customer." She beams at Vic. "The first question is how extreme a sensation do you want to be able to feel? I'll work in to the next suite of haptic systems. Also you are aware that you can adjust feedback limits in the menu right? There's a directory called Manual right off of root. Just sayin'." She smirks.
Vic looks embarrassed as she says, "I didn't get a chance to check the directories between programming weapons and armor for the run and jumping into the corrupted sector." She laughs and says, "You can't engineer away wetware issues so easiy." She pauses and taps her bag, indicating her laptop, "I did copy the files so I can review them while you're checking the suit's log files and making any desired updates based on the telemetrics of course."
Astra nods eagerly as she listens. "Cool, I can't wait to see what the logs have to say." She says as she traces a wire down the suit to it's usb port so she can start downloading all it's records to her laptop. "Anything else you'd like to share about the suit or the experience? Either for Science or just cool stories, I'm down for either or both!"
"Honestly, Astra, once I was in the D-Web I didn't feel the suit," Vic says, "Some of that may have been enhanced by the magic but it was so smooth." She then says, "And it didn't matter if I was in Sarah Connors Camp Counselor mode or... oh shoot, what was the name of the guy Rufus had me emulate... the one guy who ever defeated that 'Jason' character... do you know the name?"
Astra starts to blush, "I'm not actually big on Horror Movies, I don't think I've seen any of the Friday the 13th Movies all the way through?" She admits, "Starting to down like it really is like Ready Player One in there and I'm gonna have to know these things!" She chews on her lip nervously at the thought. "On the plus side, it's awesome that you could swap avatars on the fly and barely notice it. Maybe I'm not as bad a coder as I thought I was.."
Vic grins and doesn't mention it was her Icon code she was swapping out. "Yeah, you're one up on where I was. The movies don't /exist/ where I'm from so I'd never even heard of this Jason-character. See, in my world Friday the 13th as a superstition was suppressed by the `Narcs."
Astra blushes once more, "You probably don't know Ready Player One either?" She asks apologetically, "I've only seen the movie. But the suit's heavily inspired by it." She grins, then furrows her brow at the idea of censoring a day. "That sounds insane..." She muses, "What are Horror Movies like where you come from?"
Vic's answer may sound trite but she acknowledges this by grinning after she says, "Scary."
"That bad huh?" Astra giggles, "Fine, I'll bug you about them later.. maybe we could tune into TV from your world in the lounge sometime?" She muses, "Assuming the TV works the way I think it does. It's worth a shot anyway!"
Vic frowns, "Wait... there's a ... what?" She obviously hasn't explored the Nexus well enough. "I can see the rest of the Manamal revival after all maybe?"
"Maybe?" Astra replies like she has no idea what Manamal is. "It appears to get TV shows that don;t exist, I'm assuming they're from alternate realities. "I caught a scene that looked like it was a season 2 episode of Firefly.. been trying to find that again!"
"That is very interesting," Vic say, obviously holding back her own geek-citement about Firefly season two.
Astra lets the VR rig keep downloading it's logs to her laptop, as she glances out toward the lounge, "I've got a few hours to kill while the equipment analyzes the data, We can go fiddle with the controls until we figure it out. Firefly, Manamal Reboot, who knows!?" She says as she leads Vic off to show her the TV.
