An hour or so until midnight and the floating rave is in full swing. The music is thumping, the dancers are pumping and and more than a few of the patrons are off hump...well, at least they try and keep the curtains closed around the booths. Never, as one of the shot-boys, is walking around in a pair of navy blue underwear with white piping with a tray of plastic vials full of colored alcohol.
Eddie steps into the club looking immediately out of place; more in dress and attitude than anything else - he looks young enough that raves might still be his thing. He seems to be a man (boy?) on a mission. He motions for you to stop when you happen to pass near and closes the distance between you with a step or two. "'Excuse me, do you know if they're hiring?" he asks from a conversational distance.
Never wanders over towards the young guy and, upon hearing his question, gives him the once-over, twice. "I dunno," he begins standing there in a pair of underwear that probably cost him fifty bucks. "Depends on what you look like without your clothes on, how willing are you to sell yourself and keep your mouth shut." He smiles but it's a matter-of-fact tone to his voice. Ahh, the life of a Shot-Boy.
Eddie frowns. "I'm looking for a bouncer position," Eddie indicates. "They need any of those here?" he asks. He gives you a quick, assessing look without any hint of emotion beyond a very casual curiosity.
Never raises an eyebrow at the younger-looking guy. "Um...they do hire bouncers but not you bud. Sorry - you're too pretty to be roughin people up and throwing them out." Shifting his weight from one leg to the other and resting the tray of plastic vials on his hip he adds, "Not saying you couldn't...possibly...do the job bud, but they need people who -look- intimidating. You just look hot." He smiles but not exactly a 'hey, can I get your number' kind of way.
Eddie regards you in silence for a long period of time; his gaze may be a bit unsettling. "Thought that bouncer's were hired to keep the peace," he replies, clearly not understanding what looks have to contribute to that. He touches his hand against the rainbow braid that's fastened around his right wrist in an unconscious way; it's not nervousness per se, more like a seeking of something. He frowns when you tell him that he looks hot. He looks away, briefly scanning the club before looking back at you. He nods, accepting your assessment without necessarily agreeing with it.
Never asks, "Hey bud - what's your name?"
Eddie thinks about that question for a long, long time. "Eden," he finally tells you. Then he heads back out.
Never calls out, "Hey wait," and heads to the bar to grab one of the business cards where he writes his number on the back and the name, 'Never'. "Call me..."
Eddie stops again when you ask for him to wait up. He turns, watches you approach (he seems to be hyper-vigilant), waits. He looks down at your card when you extend it to him, glances up to study your face for a beat or two, then takes the card, nods to you, and pockets it. "Why?" he asks, maybe not quite understanding your intent.
Never offers, "So I can let ya know if they're hiring for something...else?" It's a lame excuse - not one of his best but at least it's mostly plausible. Standing there, in his underwear and barefoot - he's not exactly able to conceal much. For now, however, it would seem that he's just trying to make a new friend.
While the last part of your offer seems lost on him he accepts the first part of it a face value. He's about to turn to go again but stops (again), regards you, then offers out his hand. Awkward though it may be (more from a lack of emotionality rather than too much) Eddie also seems to be trying to make a new friend. Your attire (or lack thereof) doesn't seem to register with Eddie - you could be wearing a parka and snow-pants for all that he reacts to it.
Never offers, "Call me Never...yeah - weird name but it's cool." And, at the call of one of the guys behind the bar, he shrugs a bit and explains that he has to head back to work, "Catch ya later bud. Call me." And is back selling himself and shots.
