Maple Park

xxxxxA winding, clay-tile walkway leads from Maple Street to a wide, walled parkland. Beyond the great gates set with colored tiles in a Spanish motif, a tropical promenade opens with many more trails wandering the various attractions. Gardens of succulent plants and myriad flowers adorn a cultivated greensward riddled with landscaped streams and fountains illuminated by colored lights. Here and there, the walkways enter a flower-grown colonade with benches and small, cafe tables. Many of the plants here are not native to Southern California, only the intricate waterworks of the park ensure their health and survival despite the ubiquitous heat.

xxxxxIt's a rather quiet night at the park. Deep into the darkness, where only the freaks and weirdo's hang around. It's not very normal most nights for people to be gathered together talking, many preferring to stay by themselves. Wind rustles through the trees to spook out the few vagrants that hang around, some standing by light poles waiting for their next hookup with random girls, some chasing that next high. Crickets chirp softly in the grass, most of the animals deciding to find some hollow part of the tree to wait around in. A perfect night for random meetings.

Basilisk is sitting a bench as usual, watching over the darker, unpatrolled sections of the park. One of the local hobos, she just sits there, basking in the moonlight, enjoying the crickets and hookers. A wonderful combination. She hums to herself, the tune sounding like a funeral dirge.

xxxxxThe wind rustles, practically announcing the arrival of someone new. Someone willing to brave the harsh cold and idle danger that being in the park this late brings. The man is dressed in a crisp black suit with white dress shirt underneath and a black tie. He's wearing black sunglasses, despite it being so obviously late at night. The echoing sounds of this man's footsteps on the path pierce the silence. He reaches up to run fingers through his bleached blonde hair, head turning methodically before his eyes fall on Basilisk. He alters his course, walking directly towards the woman. Wherever he goes, a ring of silence falls around him. Crickets stop chirping, leaving an odd sound bubble as he approaches her. He does not wait for an invitation to her bench, cracking a rather wide smile as he sits right down next to her. "Hello, Basilisk. Can I call you Basilisk?" He asks. How polite he is.

Basilisk looks up at the man with the dark suit and glasses. She grunts a bit, her eyes meeting his mirrorshades. "Evenin' officer." she says, assuming this is the po-po or something. People this nicely dressed dont come up to her and sit down. "Yeah, I'm the Basilisk. A lot of people call me Basil. If you want me to leave the bench, I will but I gotta warn you. Its got hobo pee on it that may or may not be mine. Oh and if you're looking for the radio conspiracy lady about the UFO's, that's Becky."

xxxxx(http://www.cityofhopemush.com/wiki/index.php/File:Leverage-Simon.jpg) It's impossible to see the man's eyes given the sunglasses as he relaxes back into the bench. His arms come up and around the back, draped perfectly. He sits there with an odd air of authority, the rare quality of a man who is so confident that he can give zero fucks. He continues smiling that pleased smile, looking directly ahead. His response is pretty clear, almost as if he fully expected her to say that. "Who the fuck is Becky?" Things like radio broadcasts are trivial compared to this man's day to day. "I'm not here for Becky. I'm here for you. Sweet Basilisk." He finally turns his head, looking straight at Basilisk, despite his glasses being completely tinted. She can feel him practically looking into her very soul just from the gaze. "I'm here to see if you're worth my time."

Basilisk grunts "Another person who handgs around here?" she says, her shoulders tensing a bit. "I do not give blow jobs in the park. Whoever told you that is totally lying." she shifts her weight, becoming nervous though her tone is still a little flippant. "What is it you want from me?"

xxxxxYea. It's pretty easy to tell that this guy doesn't care about Becky, just from the way he stares at Basilisk. He tilts his head back and forth, as if he's considering a plethora of scenarios. Suddenly, he pushes himself off the bench. He's fast. VERY fast. Stupidly fast in how he props himself up and turns to face Basilisk, stepping away. "You give enough blowjobs, don't you? The park, the bushes, I bet you've sucked dick everywhere." He insults, but dismisses it pretty quickly. His hands thrust outwards away from his body, as if he was going to be giving Basilisk a hug, yet he doesn't advance. "I'm here to invite you to a party!" His mood suddenly quickens, going from that calm authoritative to that manic pixie. "A grand party! You're going to be the guest of honor. Well...you and friends. It's going to be great. There's going to be cake...ice cream...all sorts of friends for you to play with. I'm really quite excited, I've been planning it for some time now. Are you excited?" The man seems......TOO excited. Perhaps he's far more insane when he walked in than he led on with his demeanor.

Basilisk watches the man move off the bench, her own body tensing. The shadows around her darken. "So thats what its about. Dicksucking." she watches his hands go out, trying to make sure he hasnt pulled a weapon or anything. "Party for me eh? So which of my...friends are invited?" she asks. "And why?" her fangs extend slightly, perhaps a small threat from the normally passive bum.

xxxxxThe man's eyebrows furrow as he stares at her, especially after her fangs extend. "Put your fangs away. You'll ruin them for the party. Besides, I don't want to have to rip them out. It will make things less...exciting." He doesn't have any weapons in his hands, which might very well be a good thing, or a bad thing for Basilisk. Why this man doesn't seem threatened by her is a curiousity, as he already knows she's not just a bum. "Yep. A party for you. I might even have balloons. It will be to DIE for." His smile grows into a rather disturbing grin and he starts to practically dance in place. "You're going to want to come. I won't accept no for an answer. I won't accept yes for an answer either. Really, your presence at the party will be mandatory whether you like it or not. I'm just here giving you your invitation. It's so much better than just sending a card. I really wanted you to FEEL excited." He stops dancing, staring at her. "Are you? Are you excited? Come on Basilisk. Pretend the party is a dick and get excited about it."

Basilisk stands upwards, her fangs retracting a bit. "If you are just going to kidnap me or something, go ahead. But you hurt my friends. Any of them...." she pauses, her green eyes staring back at the shades. "I will devour your soul. If you know me you know I have done it before. And I am not afraid to do it again. So which of my...friends are invited? What is this about? Let's cut to the chase instead of playing eh?" she hisses her words protective as usual about those she considers family.

xxxxxEven as Basilisk stands up, the man starts to dance again. He really does give off a full sense of not at all being scared or worried about the woman before him. He does know a surprising amount about her, somehow, so the nonchalant behavior certainly isn't due to underestimation. "Why now? That wouldn't be so fun. If I /tell/ you I'm going to kidnap you, and then I do it right then, that just...completely takes out the mystery from the situation, doesn't it? It's gotta be a surprise invitation to the party. Like...Like being kidnapped for your bachelor party. You've gone to those right? I might have seen you in a porno once..." He stops dancing, trailing off in his curiousity as he looks back around the park. He puts on a rather fake grumpy face, staring towards Basilisk. "You want to stop playing? That's disappointing. I do so very much like playing. Otherwise I have to kill people, and that's just no fun. Then Gemma would get mad at me, wouldn't she, Basil?" Once again, this man shows a surprising amount of knowledge. "Don't worry. Gemma isn't invited, but I'm not going to tell you who is. That just adds to the mystery. I can say..." He smiles, his voice dropping to a whisper. He looks back and forth, as if checking to see and make sure no one's near enough to hear, even though it's quite obvious no one is. "I'm going to make some of your friends dreams come TRUE." He leans back and grins that grin. "Isn't that exciting?" Basilisk tilts her head, tracking the man's movements as she stands before him, tense like an animal ready to strike or run. "Aren't you telling me now?" she says. "So why are you throwing this party anyways..." she says "I've never seen a porno so I dont know." she frowns at him. "Yeah and her beast would come out." she says. "How do you know about everyone." she says. "Depends. Some of my friends have some bad nightmares." she says. "So who are you?"

xxxxxThe man freezes in place once more, tilting his head. "I suppose I am telling you now, but you're not exactly going to be able to DO anything about it, but if I did it right now you wouldn't be surprise now would you? See?" He raises his arm and gestures towards Basilisk. "You're all ready for a fight. Look at how defensive you are. Say one thing about your family and suddenly, Momma Basilisk comes out. Rawr!" He makes claws with his hands, then snickers, then immediately straightens up and goes deadpan. Really, this man goes through sudden mood changes like they're going out of style. "I'm throwing this party because everyone has forgotten about me, and I hate being forgotten. Well, one person in particular has forgotten, and I thought we were going to be such good friends. So now I'm throwing a party for all HIS friends, so they'll become my friends. You'll be my friend, won't you Basilisk? Right?" So many questions, and yet the man still answers most of them. "I know because I have to know and...THANK YOU for asking!" He seems ecstatic again, swaying in place. "My name is Simon. See? Now we're friends." Despite all the talk, he is very much not giving off the vibe of someone you want to be friends with. "And now it's my turn to ask YOU a question, friend. Momma Basilisk, who can't be a Momma. It's a very important question." He quiets down once again, doing a check for strangers. "When all of your friends are dead...will you still be my friend?"

Basilisk frowns, watching the madman before her go through his malestrom of emotion. She murmurs. "Are you on meth?" she saks. "I dont want a methhead going after me or my family." she skitters back from the claws. "Who are you? Maybe I'd remember you if I knew your name?" she pauses. "So who is this guy who doesnt remember you? Maybe I'll tell him you're looking for him." she pauses. "Simon. I think you need to sit down a minute. You're being erratic." she says. "Which friend of mine forgot you?" she says. She grunts. "And why are you threatening to kill my friends."

xxxxx"Meth? No, I'm not. I'm /NOT/" Simon replies, his voice returning to normal. "Meth is too easy." The topic moves onto the friend that doesn't remember him, and Simon actually looks genuinely sad. "Oh, it's okay. I guess...I guess I'm easy to forget. It's really sad too, especially with everything he's done so far. Sometimes I lay awake at night, staring up at the cealing, WISHING he'd call me, but he never does. Then I wake up, kill an innocent little child, and feel better." His sunglassed eyes look back to Basilisk, and he smiles. "Don't you find that all the easier to cope? Killing a pretty little thing? I do." He isn't going to sit down, and doesn't seem to worry about being erratic. "Oh, /I'm/ not going to kill your friends, no way. I'm inviting you all to a party! Why would I want to kill you if I was inviting you to a party. Really, honestly Basilisk. Jeez." He starts to look around once more, then nods. "I'm going to have to go soon, unfortunately, which is sad, because I think we're going to be just amazing friends. So!" He suddenly straightens his posture, reaching his hands behind his back and folding them in the small, military rest style. "Do you need a summary? You're my new friend, I'm inviting you to a party you're going to love, you don't get to know when, and...I'm going to murder everything and everyone you've ever loved or ever will love. Good summary? Any questions? No? Excellent." He lets a smile spread across his lips. "It was sooooooooooooo awesome to meet you Basil! I've heard so much about you."

Basilisk frowns. "Then what is wrong with you? I cam maybe get you help?" she says. "I'll tell him to call you okay? Who is it anyways? I'll let him know you're looking for him." she pauses. "Killing does help but remember. Everyone you kill has a family. And it hurts the world, right?" she tilts her head. "So this party. Is there anything I should know about it? What to bring?" she pauses. "So lets try to work things out before we go to murder ok?" she says, trying to talk the madman down from the ledge.

xxxxx"You're so sweet..." Simon says with a smile. Is it working? Is she potentially able to talk the madman down from the ledge? He certainly looks like he's going to let her but, alas, that mood change happens right afterwards. "TOO sweet!" He lets the smile fade, becoming rigid once again. "I gave him my number. He hasn't called. Not my fault. Look at you though, trying to reform me. Trying to make me happy, sweet. Trying to preserve my innocence. It brings...It brings a tear to my eye..." Simon reaches up and puts his closed fist on his cheek, pretending to wipe away a tear. "I'm going to have to murder at least two people to really get that sadness away." He nods his head several times. "I can't wait for the party. I hope you'll be able to be there. I know you will, I suspect. It will be to DIE for." With that, Simon turns, starting to walk away from the woman, back towards where he entered the park. He seems positively joyful once again. He even starts to whistle.

Basilisk frowns. "I just want you to be calm. To be able to control your beasts without killing people." she says. "Murder is so easy. There are more challenging ways to fill your desires..." she says. "If not I'll see you at the party. Either way we /will/ take care of these urges." either by talking him down or destroying him outright. This madman is going to be a problem, she thinks.
