The Damhàn (or Ananasi as others call them) who answers to the human name Parker Drew Morales was born in southern Venezuela to a clutch spawned by a Goliath Bird-Eating Spider. It (having never mated "Parker" doesn't even know what gender she was born as to this day) was among half a dozen of her clutch that were taken from the jungles and, for the most part, sold as exotic pets in northern Texas by a man she would later recognize as the Damhàn who would later claim to be her father. The sub-adult spiderling was the exception to the financial transaction as she was given by the same man to a girl who would be the "Parker"'s owner for almost a year.

Then the metamorphosis began. One night, early in the process, the man returned and became a large mass of spiders of various types. He (the spiderling definitely felt that this collection was a singular male despite the nature of any one component part) introduced himself as father and mentor. He helped the newly matured spider out of its terrarium and onto the bed with the sleeping girl. After its father paralyzed the girl and opened her skull, the spider crawled inside and, following an instinctive urge, began to eat. It took hours but early in the process, once the brain had been consumed and the dividing into leader and drone (then drones) began, the spider began to think of itself as the girl. Parker-Prime (or Parker-1) died that night and a new Parker was born though the completed metamorphosis into an Ananasi. Though the absorbed but muted memories of Parker-1 she came to recognize her abductor/father as Parker-1's father as well. By the time the sun rose the next morning Parker was finishing her meal and awoke in human form for the first time.

The next two weeks of that summer Parker spent in the Umbra with her father, a number of other newly metamorphosed Damhàn, elders of their breed and, of course, Queen Ananasa. During this fortnight beyond the Great Web Parker was taught many things and even adopted a rite name as is commonly done by her kind to blend in with other shifters: Eyes-in-the-Dark
