Types of Ghouls
There are two main types of ghouls that we keep in our lives.
Retainers
The ones that drive us around, clean up our houses, etc who are unaware of the existence of vampires do not need to be presented to the Prince and be acknowledged. These are your personal retainers and they are not the business of the Praxis. Other retainers may include non ghouled mortals but you consider them loyal servants.
Enlightened Ghouls
Those ghouls who have knowledge that vampires exist, those the domitor wishes to have access to Elysium and those aware of other kindred in the Camarilla besides their domitor must be formally presented to the Prince and your clan Primogen. Failure to comply with this edict will result in penalties for the domitor and the immediate destruction of the ghoul. They must be vetted by the Scourge and Sheriff BEFORE they are made into a ghoul. You must have permission from the Imperator given in court to enlighten a ghoul BEFORE informing a new ghoul of the existence of vampires. Once the masquerade is broken and a ghoul is enlightened, both the ghoul and the sire stand a real possibility of final death if the steps are not followed to the letter.
Situations that call ghouls into question
Unbondable Ghouls
Any ghoul that is proven to be unbondable, the domitor will be penalized and the servant will have one of several things happen to them. The first option is that they are mindwiped. If they prove to be resistant to mind control then they might be embraced as a second option. In other cases they could be destroyed if it is proven that they are not under control and are not serving the best interests of this Praxis. The Sheriff and Deputies can and will perform routine checks on servants that exhibit suspicious behavior. Failure to comply to the Sheriff’s enforcement of this edict, will result in the final death of the ghoul and detainment of the Domitor.
Rogue Ghouls
A ghoul that loses their Domitor for any reason; be that the death of the Domitor, abandonment or the ghoul ran away from a vampire of another sect, will be judged on an individual basis. The bulk will go into the Imperators stable until auctioned off to the highest bidding kindred. If no one takes responsibility the alternative to this is the final death of the ghoul.
Taking a New Ghoul
Council of Greater Prospect Constitutional Laws:
*10 - Ghouls - Before the Masquerade is revealed to any chosen to be an enlightened ghoul, they must be vetted by the Sheriff, with the Imperator making the final decision. All enlightened ghouls will be considered a future childe.
Properly Requesting a New Ghoul
NPC Ghouls - the Prince does not need to meet them unless it is necessary as part of your RP, or a PRP.
PC Ghouls - Do some background investigation, including a +request to staff. Vetting can be handwaved if staff OOCly confirms the would-be ghoul has no relevant secrets, otherwise staff needs to OOCly oversee what you do and what you find. The Sheriff will not put that +request in for you, and will conduct their own investigation separately. Only Vampires in good standing should be allowed to enlighten a ghoul. If you are denied permission to enlighten a ghoul, consider bringing it up again later when you’ve raised your standing or have earned a boon from the Imperator.
Do the steps in this order
- 1: Offer to pay the Imperator at the minimum a minor boon.
- 2: Get permission in court to enlighten a ghoul.
- 3: Make sure the Scourge and Sheriff has vetted your prospective new servant.
- 4: Blood Bond that ghoul 3 steps. Only a fully bonded ghoul should be brought to the Imperator for acknowledgement. Anything less, is a risk to the Masquerade. (OOC: Read +rules blood bond)
- 5: They must know the Traditions to be acknowledged.
- 6: Acknowledgement in court is the final step.
