Scene: Setting

Food: The big bay doors of the machine shop have been opened and tables set in the openings laiden with food. Large aluminum pans of mashed tatters, corn, biscuits are set up to cater to whatever sized group shows up. The main attraction are the wide selection of main dishes. Everything from vegetarian curry to barbequed pork, grilled salmon and steak with some whole, rotisserie chickens - juicy and herb-flavored to whet the appetite.

Drinks: At the end of the line are a mixture of different coolers, each one filled with ice and drinks in a set up where people take what they want and move on. Selections include beer, water and a few brands of soda for those interested.

Tables: Sheets of plywood have been set up on saw horses to create long tables for people to sit and eat at before taking their comfort around the fire.

Fire Ring: Chairs, benches and everything in between have been set in a large circle around the central fire where the flames are kept moderately high to provide light and warmth for the crowd. See also: .details/firepit for additional information.

Welcome & Introductions
Bergin walks into the center of the yard and glances over to the food being served for tonight's feast before raising his bottle to get people's attention. A few of the Boyz(tm) are running between the pans of food out for people to pick from as well as the coolers to make sure that everything is ready for the guests. Mrs. Marry pops two fingers into her mouth to let out an ear-splitting whistle to to quiet folks down.

The young, bearded theurge smiles at the kinfolk's assistance and clears his throat with a faint smile. "Hey folks, for those who are new to the Gathering, let me first welcome you all here. I'm Jay Bergin, called Foe Hammer by the People but most people know me simply as Bergin or Berg." He smiles and looks around the gathered crowd as folks still continue to arrive and grab their food to settle in.

"As you can see we have plenty of food and drink for ya tonight and you're welcome to take your fill." He takes a sip from his beer and smacks his lips with an audible 'Ah' in enjoyment. "But, since there are some who are either newly arrived to the community or it's their first time at the Gathering, I'd like everyone to introduce themselves so we might get to know you a bit better."

Spotting Journey of course Erin goes to give him a hug moving away from Stan. Erin smiles up at him then she goes to actually find a spot as she waves "Erin Harrison, Kinfolk to Mother Ananasa and related to the Fae" she then flops down into a seat as she seems to want to just rip the bandaid off.

Lyric peers over at Killigrew as she mentions an injury and then gives Journey a nod. He gravitates in the Elder's general direction, pausing as Bergin starts to speak. He glances around slowly, then once a few people have spoken, he does as well, his voice accented with a Middle Eastern sort of lilt, voice almost as pretty as the man himself. "Lyric. Bastet."

Tabi takes a sip of mead and steps forward. "Tabitha Danes, Tabi to my friends and Jumps-through-Fire to Family. Daughter to Bear, I am a Kovi Kieh born on two-legs." She raises her mead bottle in greeting. "I heal and I cleanse, for those that need my services."

Journey gets hugged by Erin, looking to the center of the gathering as Bergin kicks off, looking around and nodding to Lyric, and, looking back to the gathering, "Journey Farshi, Shaderunner of the Silent Striders. Elder Theurge of Homid birth, Alpha of the Zephyrs Hand pack, mated to Vesta Farshi of the Silent Strider Kinfolk, Father of Stephen Farshi, deednamed Baconcaller."

Gogh looks at people as they introduce themselves, and rubs the back of her neck self consciously. She steps towards the fire with stiff joints, and glances to Erin, to the others who introduce themselves. "Van Go Quickly. Most people call me Gogh" She says. Her voice is rather high, light, keeping with the look of her. The firelight gleams on her cheap white shirt "Here for work. Skulker of Mamma Rat, looking for short and long term contracts among the others" She says, taking a deep breath and shifting back from the fire, eyes bright and hands shaking "If you want to contract with me, let me know. Not money - looking to work for goods, mundane or other."

"I am Zoe Killigrew, daughter of Mist-Walker, grand-daughter of Shatters-the-Throne, great-grand daughter of Death-Sings-Loudest, great-great grand daughter of Voice-in-the-Silence, great-great-great grand daughter of Patriarch's Bane. Black Fury kinfolk, shapeshifter and enchantress." The kin finds a spot on the west side of the fire and makes sure there's room for her European shadow. Riding a pleasant buzz from the mead, she sets the bottle between her feet to let it settle.

And also, he's been offered Food, whether directly or indirectly, so Lyric looks between Journey and the food and ... bypasses Journey in favor of deliciousness. It's a slow meander in that direction, and when Gogh speaks, he upnods in her direction and reaches for something upon which to start piling food.

Brooke arrives just a bit into this, with a gadget in her hand she seems to be working on. Once she gets closer to them all, she slips it in her pocket and pats it once. She waves a hand, "I am Brooke Spencer, rited Hushed Blaze, Elder Galliard Glass Walker born on two legs, packed with Zephyr's Hand, member of the Random Interrupts, Master of the Howl for the Sept of the Enduring Spirit." Then she smells the food, but waits a bit to see if there is anyone new tonight.

Sten bows his head to Journey in respect then starts his own introduction "I am Sten Blixt, Stormhowler, Alpha of Frostbite under Hildisvini, Adren Skald of the Fenrir, blessed of Nerigal, son of Eric Blixt, Ironheart, son of Johan Blixt, Starsinger, son of Torbjörn Blixt, Redsnow, Son of Olaf Blixt Stormhowler, born to Fimbul Winter sept." nodding to those present with a broad smile "I also invite anyone who wishes to Ravenscar, our lands, our Longhouse, to meet with Frostbite, to learn of our hospitality and if so wish learn from what we learned in our time here in Prospect"

Robert lets Paul do the driving today, as he's busy looking at pictures on his phone. "Well, I'm sure she'll get along fine with the cats, as long as they know that he isn't food..." he's saying as he steps out of the jeep

Dalibor joins in with the chorus of introductions. "Dalibor Gataric, rited as Burns-the-Night, Cliath Modi of Fenrir and son of the mighty Andrej 'Cleaves-the-Sky' Gataric."

Gogh slumps near one of the fires, clasping her hands together frantically, shoulders rounded, and shooting little suspicious looks around before nodding to Lyric as he joins her

Smiling at Tabi, Erin gives her a hug as she comes closer. She looks around as people begin to introduce themselfs and she gives a little wave.

A Polynesian wolf with a golden pelt slinks out of the forest with a sled in tow. The Maori duo slide into the yard from a rear entrance and pull up shy of the main crowd. The golden wolf watches as Kora is able to get the first clasp undone and gets herself free of the sled's bindings. He yips happily and turns in a few circles, waggling his butt.

Paul parks the Jeep and laughs at Robert, "I told them, but expect them to harass her to no end." He steps to the back and pulls out a cooler of smoked fish."

Lyric loads up his plate quietly and then moves over in Gogh's direction. When he spots Paul and Robert and lifts his hand in a wave as he takes a seat over by Gogh. He smirks at something said and replies quietly

Tabi returns Erin's hug and then gestures Brooke to a seat next to her. "Please."

-The News-
The bearded Get theurge gives people a bit to take in his welcome before he explains how he has planned the evening. "As has become tradition here at the Gathering, and while we're all getting nice and cozy around the fire, I've asked one of the Community to tell us a Tale of the People. This week we have a Kinfolk of the Black Furies, Killigrew." After a quick sip to let that sink in, the lumberjack of a Get picks right back up and continues to walk around the fire as he speaks.

"Also, to continue the tradition of the competition, this week its a combination of the previous two with a bit of a twist. See, /this/ week, you'll need to jump and climb over a series of old cars to get to the place where you'll throw an axe to hit the target. It's not like our enemies are going to just stand around and let us hit them." The bearded Get smiles and gestures to a simple obstacle course that's been put together off to the edge of the yard.

Hopefully people came wearing old clothes - or at least those who heard from last week. "Also, just a quick bit of news from the Daughter of Mother Bear, she is still looking for recruits to form a team of Smokejumpers to help fight the fires that have raged across the lands. All those interested in helping should speak to Tabi here," he points to the blonde-haired woman gathered around the firepit.

Robert gets himself settled as the crowd grows, taking a moment to show Erin the picture of a multicolored squirel.. "Our new houseguest. Don't let the panther eat her." he says with a proud wink before taking a seat.

Journey looks around, tracking Lyric, Gogh, nodding to Sten, and looking over as Paul and Robert show up, then the Maori siblings, considering as he moves over towards the sled and pair with it.

Erin smiles at the hug and looks to Brooke "Please" she smiles at her rather brightly and then waves to Paul and Robert. It's a good thing that Tabi is hugging her right now. She gets to see the picture and ooooos "He won't, he isn't that mean he just would play a little he knows how to be gentle" she grins and hugs Robert and Paul before they find their seats.

Paul waves to Lyric and the others that he knows, which is alot of the group. He grins at Erin, returning her hug before placing his tray down with the other food stuff and following Robert to sit down.

Brooke smiles and replies, "Thank you both." She sees the picture being shown and notes what is being shown. "Just be careful with them. Squirrels are highly intelligent and crafty creatures. Just ask Bronwyn. Or Lleutrim. Or Skully."

Taika heads behind a scrapped Chevy and shifts back into his homid form. As he walks back out he sees Journey coming his way and he nods, "Shaderunner-rhya. Kia Ora.". Kora smiles and stays silent for now as her cheeks twitch.

Paul nods to the ones by the firepit, "This is a great place to get materials for my fire-pits and statues." He looks to Brooke and grins at her, "Yes'm Miss Brooke, and this one is /really/ smart, and the most colorful squirrel you ever did see."

Storytime
Once people have finished introducing themselves to the crowd and he's gone over the basic news that has hit his ears in the past week, Bergin continues to encircle the fire to address the crowd. "It is great to see all of us gathered under Luna's light like this."

"I'm sure that the Mother is smiling down on us as we gather together in common cause. Stories are important, they are our history - our legacy so that we do not forget from where our People came. So please have a seat (read: Places) and help me welcome tonight's Storyteller.

The Get theurge gestures over to Killigrew and smiles to bid her to step into the center, "Good people, I give you the Daughter of Artemis, Killigrew of the Black Furies."

Bergin claps and encourages others to draw Killigrew up to the center of the Gathering while he finds a new drink and takes a seat to let her speak.

Journey nods to Kora, smiling, and turns to Taika, "At some point in the future, when," He looks over his shoulder to the Gathering at large, then back, "Pencil in a quiet consultation to discuss options of treatment." He says, then nods and moves off to find somewhere to sit.

Sten claps in encouragement looking to Zoe offering a nod then looks over to Bergin

Dalibor pats Zoe on the arm and joins the encouraging applause.

Brooke watches Killigrew come up to speak, and all her attention is on her, and gives a some encouraging applause as well.

Rising from her place by the fire, Zoe glances to Dalibor, then gathers herself, moving forward. Unwrapping the bandage from her left hand, she balls up the gauze and herbs, feeding them to the fire. An offering. "Some of you have heard me speak of how I came to this Sept. Bergin has asked that I speak of it again." She stops to take deep breath, nervous.

"Mine is a cautionary tale. A story of sights and sounds that I can't forget." She pauses to look at the flames, licking along the wood in the firepit. "I wonder every day if there was anything that could have been done. Did we need more patrols? Should we have given more to Gator, that he would watch the waters? Were the spirits angry at us? Had we become complacent, thinking our Caern, our sacred space was simply... out of reach to those that would do us harm?"

"And the answer is: I don't know. I'm not a Garou, I'm not in-tune that way with the world. What I know is that we were all gathered to work on a feast for the Moot, two days hence. Women were singing, kids were running around playing chase and trying to catch a bull frog. I was helping to haul firewood and keep an eye on the kids and cubs. It was busy and the song of the swamp was only made better by the sound of Garou and kin at work to be ready to celebrate being together with the Moot."

"I know of a mating that was to be announced. Offerings to be made to Gator. The fish and the crayfish had been plentiful, and Gator's Children were all fat and lazy with full bellies. Everyone was happy and, and -flourishing-. You need to understand that growth alone doesn't mean everything is safe. Happiness and singing kin and laughing children... they don't mean that you can relax."

Minna listens in silence and with a quiet, reserved fascination, trying now and then to look encouraging, whenever Zoe should look her way.

Robert perks a moment as Gator is mentioned...

Taika nods to Journey as the man speaks. Kora takes a breath and says, "Thank you.". As Killi gets called up, Taika whistles and sits next to Kora. They are close enough to listen, but far enough away to not be a distraction with Kora's outbursts. Tabi looks at Erin. She suspects that this story is not going to go well. And now she feels she might have gone a bit over-board with the encouraging cheers.

Erin scoots closer to Tabi and lays her head on her shoulder as she listens to the story, she suspects the same that something bad is going to happen.

A pale Dal gives Killi a supportive nod. She's strong, she can do this.

"I would even say the opposite is true." Killigrew takes an unsteady breath, lips pressing into a tight line before she continues. "I would say that prosperity and happiness mean you have so much more to lose."

"I don't know where we went wrong. I may never know. I may not -want- to know." She admits, a little unsteady, quieting some before pushing forward.

"You have to understand, our land isn't very far from civilization, but the swamp can make even a short journey take hours. We were as isolated as you can be. Homes on stilts, connnected by bridges. Our central bawn was a raised area that was always a bit mucky and wet, just the way Gator likes his sunning spots to be."

"My cousin had tripped, chasing the frog. He was eight. I was trying to get him sorted when they came. I didn't hear them, see them. They were just there, in the middle of us. Everything just stopped, and then the screaming started."

Brooke is drawn in already. She sees the story going sideways, but cannot stop listening to it. Where is the popcorn? Even though she has fought many battles, and seen incredible things, there is /nothing/ like a true story being told like this.

Theron arrives and just finds a place to sit, having arrived in the middle of the story, he chooses to just shut up and enjoy the story. The Get of Fenris kinfolk gives a nod now and then to those that might look his way but he doesn't do anything to draw attention in particular.

Sten offers a nod to Theron looking back to Zoe, he had not heard the story but the build up told of what would happen. A Skald knows, frowning deeply, not at the story or its teller but at what she must have suffered through.

Gogh glances to Killi, listening, tapping her fingers against her knee in agitation

"The children that were closest went first. I think, to push our Garou into losing control. Rage sharpens claws, but it can steal the mind. And it worked." Zoe closes her eyes tight, hands knotting up before she stuffs them in her pockets, paling. "The wolves lost their minds, and the Spirals used it against them. No one could believe it at first, you know?"

I got lucky. I was too big to be targeted right away and small enough I ducked down under one of the lower bridges, into the water. It hid my scent, and I was able to change and get away, but not until I saw and stood witness to how terrible the Wyrm's corrupted can be."

"Do not ever think that Black Spiral Dancers, in their madness, are stupid or less than formidable. They proved that night they are capable of ambushes and thinking like tacticians. They knew exactly how to take the upper hand early, and then they never let it go. I'm sure they took losses, but I'm also certain that it was a one-sided fight from the moment they set foot on the bawn."

Robert grabs himself a drink and sits back down, raising it "Making me a bit homesick..."

Erin blinks as she listens and just leans into Tabi a little bit more. She is watching Zoe though.

A frown spreads further across Theron's face as he listens to the story, obviously the thought of the battle does not rest well on the Get of Fenris kinfolk.

Tabi wraps an arm around Erin. Yup. She's definitely regretting some of her earlier choices.

Taika gets up and leaves, trying to be quiet as he does so. All the talk of growing comfortable had made him anxious and he is off to go do a sweep of the area. Kora cries silently by herself

"I never thought I would miss the people that were dicks to me for being 'too city'. But I do. They were still -family-."

"So my lesson to you is simple: Never let your guard down. Never take your loved ones for granted, no matter how strong they are. Never forget to take those chances and to have those moments with people while you have them. You never know when Luna will call them home." The kin takes an unsteady breath, letting it out slowly.

"I have been granted permission to beg more of your kindness. I want to bring my family home, so what remains can be honored." Her voice is tight, struggling.

"Everyone keeps telling me I don't -owe- any of you anything, but everything that I have, has been given freely and I just... Thank you. All of you. For being so welcoming, and generous and..." She pulls a hand from her pocket and waves it around in a generic 'everything' kind of way, then rubbing at her eyes as she starts to move away from the fire, drifting back from the heat to find that half bottle of mead.

Journey listens quietly seeming rather impassive at the moment, composed, and quiet, watching as Zoe finishes and moves back to her drink.

"And people wonder why I walk around with a sword and in armor...you won't see this Get letting his guard down." Theron grunts under his breath and finds a drink.

Aldric slips in partway through Zoe's telling of her story, moving quietly to sit near one of the fires by familiar faces. His expression is grave as she speaks of what happened, then concerned as she finishes and walks from the focus of the group.

Dalibor knows the story, with a little less detail... this isn't a story Zoe likes to share, obviously. Now that storytime's over, he's up and giving Zoe her mead - with a brief touch on the arm. "You did good."

Minna looks like she's debating getting up and moving over to check on her or something, but, she settles back down again when Dalibor does it instead. She gives the beer in her bottle a little swirl and takes a swig, leaning forward, elbows draped on her knees.

Gogh nods up to Kalli as she finishes, and then to Bergin. She thinks, then nods again to him, returning to chatter quietly at her fire

Paul had listened attentively and he nods his head as she finishes her story. He looks over to Robert and gives him a light punch in the arm.
