Summary

The government's research into psychic ability has not been a widely circulated discussion. Rumors occasionally pop up that someone was recruited by them and given a great job, with a fat paycheck and an awesome career but they travel so much that people lose contact with them eventually. But now there's a name to go with these interesting job recruiters, NIPR (NIPPER), the National Institute for Paranormal Research.
Oh, by all means go google them if you want and see how fast you start getting random reports that your email addresses are trying to be hacked. Your phone starts blowing up with warnings that someone has tried to log into your work and private emails but because their attempts have been thwarted but you should go and reset your security immediately. N.I.P.R. doesn't appear on any government website, no paper trails seem to lead to or from them but their research programs have popped up on small college campuses for the past five years. They'll pay good money to give you a battery of tests to see if you possess a "Unique Psychometric Profile".
Most do it for drinking money; a hundred dollars for an hour of your time and a few questions? It's a no-brainer. But sometimes, just sometimes, the results of their sweeps get someone's attention. Now they want to schedule a followup interview to re-administer the test to make sure that your responses weren't just randomly successful. It's another hundred dollars for another hour of your time. And if you're lucky enough to score higher than average, they might even want to do further testing or possibly offer you a job. One rumor is that since they work with the government they can forgive ALL of your student loans - if you go to work for them.
     What could possibly go wrong?

Breadcrumb Quests

Breadcrumb quests / plots are typically individual in nature. I don't expect a large group of people to somehow find reasons to work together (especially in the Mortal+ sphere). This means that individuals or smaller groups who "stumble" upon the plot might explore the story at their own pace (often through @mail and pages to me). This also means that the progress of one individual / group might affect another which can lead to some interesting scenes within the plot arc.

By letting people explore the plot at their own speeds and with their own motivation, no one group will have an advantage over another. Also, by running down similar paths in the plot, some groups might merge and decide to work together to form a larger group. But this is done through the organic evolution of roleplay within the plot. There will be some scenes that are large enough that I will try and coordinate them among all those involved (if it can happen) so that things are on the same page.

To facilitate an accurate record of what groups are doing what within the plot, I keep a running Google Doc of everything that's going on (for individual groups and collectively) so that I (and staff if necessary) can see what's happening.
Example

  • Group 1 investigates a location on day 1 of the plot and discovers a clue.
  • Group 2 investigates the same location but at a different time (on Day 1 or Day 2) and may discover the same clue -and- evidence that someone else has recently been there. This could lead group 2 into following group 1 thinking that they're part of the clue.
  • Group 3 Investigates the same location at a different time and discovers both the original clue and may observe the fallout from Groups 1 and 2 investigating the location (police, fire, explosions, etc.)
  • Groups 1 and 2 run into each other investigating the clue and merge into a larger group with more resources. Group 3 is still on their own but not there's a bigger footprint of "someone else" following the same path.

N.I.P.R.

For those with an interest and want to get a basic understanding of the group (through your own means) here is a list of the following rolls that you'll need to get a better understanding of the organization. Additional information might be gained through appropriate Allies and or Contacts. Special consideration will be given to those who possess Influence in High Society/Finance/Political areas.

  • Brief: What is the Agency?
    • Influence in High Society / Politics / Occult can be used to lower the difficulty / provide additional information
    • (Intel+Parapsychology vs 8, Intel+Conspiracy Theory vs 8 or Intel+Investigation vs 9)
    • (Intel+Occult vs 9) If the above roll is successful, this can be used to draw in the greater implications of the organization's activity within the greater supernatural landscape.
  • Funding: How are they funded? What budgets are supporting them?
    • Influence in Finance can be used to lower the difficulty / provide additional information
    • (Intel+Accounting vs 8 or Intel+Finance vs 9)
  • Leadership: Who has or is running the program on both a National and local levels?
    • Influence in Politics can be used to lower the difficulty / provide additional information
    • (Intel+Conspiracy Theory vs 8 or Intel+Bureaucracy vs 9) (without prior successes on Brief/Funding)
    • (Intel+Conspiracy Theory vs 7 or Intel+Bureaucracy vs 8) (With prior successes)
  • Known Projects: What have they done and what are they up to?
    • Influence in Occult can be used to lower the difficulty / provide additional information
    • (Intel+Conspiracy Theory vs 8 or Intel+Bureaucracy vs 9)(without prior successes on Brief/Funding)
    • (Intel+Conspiracy Theory vs 7 or Intel+Bureaucracy vs 8)(With prior successes)
    • {Intel+Area_Knowledge vs 7) to identify any projects that are active within the general area.

Hooks

  • Investigation: Are you the type that likes to follow clues, uncover evidence and piece together motives from seemingly unrelated cases?
  • Occult: Does magic, the supernatural, the unknown interest you?
  • Mortal+: Know someone who's got psychic talent? Maybe you have it and decided to get a quick buck letting them test you?
  • Supers: A government agency is attempting to recruit mortals with psychic talents. Is this something that worries or interests you? Could this be an attempt by the government to harness mortal psychics to use against you? Probably not - they've never been -that- coordinated in the past, right?

Application

Interested parties should @mail Gaunt with the following information:

  • Interest: Why are you jumping into this plot? What's your motive. Boredom doesn't count. Why -this- plot?
