RP Hooks
- Jaz and Hands: This well-known-within-the-culture TikTok duo is a woman (who we mostly know through voiceover) and an orange polydactyl long-haired tabby cat who make funny videos. A few of them have gone seriously viral, enough that she's made a fair amount of money and put it away to live on once the whole TikTok fad dies out. She's often filming Hands' antics, and has a leash and harness for him -- when he's not riding her shoulders. He's usually with her, though he seems to go unnoticed by most people unless they really pay attention. She also spoils him. Shocker. Crazy Cat Lady Alert!
- Witchy Woman: Jaz presents as a stereotypical witchy white girl, with lots of crystals, a pentagram, and typically 'mystical' symbols all about her. Hippie clothes? Check. Blessed Be bumper sticker? Check. Lots of occultish silver jewelry? Check.
- The Girl Who Survived the Dorm Fall: There is an urban legend at UC Prospect about a junior who fell off the roof of a dorm during a party, and somehow caught a fire escape in mid-air and landed safely, rather than falling to her death. While the story's become outlandishly exaggerated, that actually happened to Jaz five years ago. It was the moment of her Awakening, no less. So no, it's not a urban legend. Dorm Fall Girl is real!
Mage
- Node Guardian: Jaz wound up as the guardian of a not-insignificant Node here in Prospect. Her former mentor, Jay Walker-Between, was a Dreamspeaker master who had been scarce over the past few years, since he took on a student (that being Jaz), but he was known as an eclectic sort of shaman, a spirit-speaker of the urban type, and his death was quite recent as the result of pattern bleeding thanks to Paradox.
- Dreamspeaker with a twist: Jaz is very much a child of modern paganism and uses a lot of its trappings in her workings. She is most gifted in Spirit, of course, but has other skills as well. She is atypical for a shaman, and in fact, calls herself a 'spirit witch.'
Short-term goals
- Figure out what her life will look like moving forward: She has no idea what her life looks like alone; she and Jay were very close, and she feels isolated now, with just her familiar 'Hands' aka Fortuno to keep her company.
- Meet up with other mages: Jaz has been pretty isolated between learning from her mentor and producing her work on TikTok, and wants to make allies and friends.
- Learn more ways to defend the Node: She's aware that she's not the most potent mage out there, and tending a Node is no easy feat. She is determined to become better able to tend and defend her charge.
Longer-term topics
- Ethics and the Shaman: Ethical interaction with spirits is important to Jaz. Having a Familiar, once she understands the details of how it came to be, is another ethical quandary that will affect her. The ethics of magic itself is a huge topic that she will find endlessly compelling.
- Where does an outsider fit?: She really lives on the edges and fringes of society, and it begs the question of where she actually fits, where her life will go, and what sort of life she will be building for herself moving forward.

What the hell is he?:
Animal familiar - housecat, long-haired polydactyl orange tabby
Some noteworthy capabilities:
- Hide: The difficulty for rolls to spot or find the familiar are at +3. So if you're trying to notice him on Jaz's shoulders, you might not succeed even though he's right there. Tricksy cat!
- Read and write and speech: Yes, he talks. And reads, and can even write. The polydactyl paws let him manipulate child-sized pens and implements with some facility. He prefers a miniature Bluetooth keyboard.
- Darksight: He can see better than most cats, even, in the dark.
- Telepathic communication: Like all familiars, he can talk through mindspeech to Jaz, and vice versa. Yes, he is absolutely snarking about you in private. He's a cat. Get used to it.
Can I pet him?
Ask the cat. He might be in the mood, he might not. Do not grope the cat without consent, thanks! Injuries from touching without permission are entirely your fault, and will likely earn you a dirty look from Jaz as well.
