Bestseller Book Club

Mariava published her first novel, The County of Rising Shadow, in 2011. Though targeted at a young adult audience, it attracted readers of all ages at all demographics. The story was a classic one, an epic faerie tale about a dark prince and a terrible, sentient darkness. The heroine, the young ruler of a beautiful kingdom, barely won out in the end against those forces and at terrible cost, as her champion perished in mortal combat against enemy forces. It reached high on the New York Times Bestseller List, and received a lot of glowing praise from critics.

Money, Money, Money

The Carmichaels are old money. Big money. Economically and politically they exist in the same realms as the Kennedys and the Trumps, the Coxs and the Pritzkers. They largely avoid the tabloids by being low-key and above scandal, but no family is without its dirty little secrets and its connections. Though Mariava is young, she's left a lot of the politicking and moneymaking to her elder brothers and begun to dabble in the arts and philanthropic causes. Trying her wings on the West Coast, on the fringes of her family's very large sphere of influence, she could be a good connection for someone looking for a patron. Or a mark.

The Psychic Connection

Mariava is young and her psychic abilities are both poorly developed and poorly controlled. They like to manifest at the most inopportune times without her consent or even her awareness. Maybe you'll spot her having one of her episodes; maybe one of her random flashes of insight concerns you? Maybe you lost something and she found it; maybe you just saved her from walking in front of a bus?
