First responders were quick to the scene, but there was very little remaining of the structure upon their arrival. At this time, the Sheriff's department released a statement saying, "We are investigating the cause of the explosion. When we are ready to make an official statement, we will let you know." Rumors spread that this has something to do with the recent increase of gang activity. Gertrude 'Gerty' Osthiemer, 84, a long time resident of Oceanside, says, "I don't feel safe with all those hoodlums around! These checkpoints on I-5 South of Laguna Niguel and I-15 south of Temecula have effectively blockaded the greater LA Area an any attempt to avoid them increases travel times by over 4 hours. Reports include sightings of private helicopters and marine craft also being stopped and searched. Witnesses report that two men in black suits entered the premises around a quarter-past 1 pm today and looked around the shop for a few moments. They looked through the booths and into the bathrooms and then one of them drew a pistol to threaten a waitress and was asking if she'd seen someone at the shop. The waitress was quite shaken when she was asked and she couldn't remember what the he looked like but she told them that the only one who left before they came in was a young boy in a hoody. The two men left shortly after she answered. Thankfully no one was injured. ============================================================================== =================================== IC News ================================== Message: 12/41 Author: Alzbeta Sat Feb 01 Tijuana Boat House Theft ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A slightly confused reporter tries to hide their amusement as they discuss the recent theft of a boat house from a marina near Tijuana. Unknown parties stole a boat house named "Mama's Home" and decided to take it for a joy ride on the open ocean in bad weather. The boat did not have on radio or lights. A local playboy having a yacht party tried to unsuccessfully signal the boat as it headed towards international waters. That was the last anyone saw of "Mama's Home." Overconfident teenagers are the suspected culprits. No survivors have been found, and the Coast Guard has abandoned rescue efforts. The eponymous 'Mama' is heartbroken and now homeless. She has lost all her posessions and has been forced to stay with her daughter and son-in-law. "I'm devastated, not just for myself, but for the families of those teenagers. Why they chose what to do, I will never know. We must work towards a drug free society, with after school programs to keep the youth busy as well as teach them valuable nautical and survival skills," the distraught woman was quoted as saying. A local fisherman has been working to help 'Mama' build a new house boat. The name of his houseboat? "Second Chance." ============================================================================== =================================== IC News ================================== Message: 12/42 Author: KPTV News Mon Feb 03 Crime Stoppers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Appearing on the Local News: On January 30th, the Witches Brew and Occult shop was robbed. The Prospect police department and local authorities are looking for this man. The security footage is rather grainy but it shows: You see a guy in his early twenties with a slim, almost a runner's build, with short, blonde hair, blue eyes with a mostly pale complexion. The late high school or early college-aged guy looks like the product of a typical suburban childhood whose parents had enough to foster his interests and allow him a life of general comfort and enjoyment - at least at one time. Standing just at six feet tall, but with a slender build he's wearing a pair of well-worn jeans and an old grey hoody that might have been white at one time but has been stained and worn to filth. He's carrying a canvas satchel slung over one shoulder that's got some wear marks here and there as though it might have been used as a pillow and a club in the same night. All-in-all, it looks like the kid came from one life and ended up in another and has been on the run to get back ever since. Sources within the police force report that the abduction was on 4th street between F and E streets at approximately 1 a.m. The woman was described as "stunningly beautiful" by an employee of the Best Buy at the Cliffside Village Shopping Center. The employee wishes to have their name withheld by mentioned seeing the woman enter the Styx and Stones bar across the street when they were locking up the store to leave. The employee described seeing the woman enter the bar alone and that's why it caught their attention. Authorities are continueing to investigate the abduction but as yet no leads have been reported. The house was engulfed in flames by the time that the fire department reached the house. Fire Chief Les McBurney says, "An investigation is under way regarding the fire as our team is going through the remains. It's unclear at this time if anyone was home or not at the time the fire occurred." A police investigation into the cause of the fire is under way. University of California Prospect graduate student Amalia Welkin says otherwise. Her graduate thesis, "Human Resources: Calculating and Quantifying Human Capital Inside and Outside the Workplace" is creating a lot of buzz in business circles. She explains her research shows how to quantify a value for every man, woman, and child by holistically calculating their intrinsic worth based on a bewildering number of variables. "Every person has a specific value in regards to specific times and places, which changes from moment-to-moment," Welkin says. "Subconsciously, we're all calculating these values, weighing positives and negatives, every second of our lives. 'Which guy should I marry? Which applicant should I hire? Which school should I send my kid to? How will eating donuts for dinner affect my value to this person, or that person, or myself? Would it be better to do this now, or later, or not at all?' But humans are imperfect and your gut instinct may not be correct.” Welkin claims her research shows how to use computer simulations to replace these gut reactions. "I took a look at all the variables involved in answering these questions. All of them. Age. Education. Genetics. Physical environment. Social environment. Personality profile. Historic trends.” And many others too numerous to list. According to Welkin, her findings have wide-ranging applications. "My simulations can show any organization -- corporations, non-profits, schools, even family households -- how valuable any individual will be to a given situation. And not only how to select and allocate employees to maximize worker efficiency, but also how to find the career best suited to an individual's talents." "I think Ms. Welkin's findings are very interesting, possibly revolutionary," said Gerald Baker, CEO of WonderLoaf, Inc. "If they're not too disruptive to incorporate into our business practices, of course. But I'm sure she already calculated for that." Not everyone agrees that Ms. Welkin's findings are a good thing. "Vile! Just vile," said Reverend Tillerson of the First Baptist Church of Prospect. "Another example of elitist leftist colleges teaching our kids that people are just cogs in a machine, or just another animal to be used, not sacred beings made in His image. There's a reason ninety-eight percent of women who go to college have five or more abortions in their lives! Ninety-eight percent!" Dr. Hemant Patel, chair of the UCP Economics department, replied via email when asked to comment: "We encourage our students to think outside the box. We might have a serial killer on the loose in Prospect, and nobody cares because of whoe the victims are. A woman is not asking for it because she chooses to go into a biker bar. A child does not deserve it because they are homeless. The residents of NorthEast have been living in fear, and most of Prospect is not aware. What if this was your son or daughter? I hope you never have to experience such a thing, but neither should anyone else. There's even leads for the police ... the motorcycles or black van that people have reported hearing or seeing right aroun the time of the abductions. The working girls on 4th that reported children being forced into those vans. And what about Styx and Stones? Do you think it's a coincidence that some of these people were last seen here and motorcycles were heard around the time of the abduction. The police and the reporters are doing nothing, yet you'll judge us if we do something to protect ourselves. How can anyone treat another person like this? For the past few days they have been giving free coffee and homemade donuts and pastries to police, firefighters, and EMTs to show their appreciation. "They were willing to give me one too," the reporter says before taking a bite. "And with donuts as good as these, it's no wonder they keep coming back. I'm Anne Sherman, and this has been your channel 11 news. Suspects in the recent abductions and potential kidnapping cases were identified and surrounded within an abandoned warehouse at the edge of the city where a small gun battle ensued. Swat was able to charge the building using drone surveilance and tear gas in an attempt to minimize collateral damage but two police offers were reported to have suffered minor injuries in the final altercation. Sources close to the police report that the situation ended in the death of the five suspects and the recovery of nine bodies - presumably the victims of the recent abductions. Msg Dawson should you have any questions. ============================================================================== =================================== IC News ================================== Message: 12/51 Author: Dawson Thu Feb 13 Plot: Cold Cases ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When the frozen body of a wealthy industrialist is found next to the charred corpse of a local prostitute a few months ago, no one knew where to look for a lead or a motive. The beds weren’t damaged by frost or fire so the case was tossed into the big room of unsolved cases because no one wanted to try and solve what had happened. The whole thing was forgotten until another frozen body was found a few days ago in a sleazy motel downtown. Another wealthy business guy, frozen, but next to him was the charred /outline/ of someone else. No additional body was found. The cops are clueless and the city officials, driven by local news hype, are wanting answers. ||OOC|| This is a plot that I'm starting, from scratch, with a better grasp on what needs to be done to keep it from running away without the storyteller holding onto the reins. After a recent vandal defaced the building that houses Guardian Games, it would appear that a team of people have come together and restored the building back to its original appearance. Gary Snails, 68, a long time resident of Prospect noted, "The graffiti was an eye sore. I'm happy to see people of the community coming together to clean up heinous crimes like this." Maria West gives her Side of the Story, "Me and my friends love coming to Bailando's for a night out. But the threatening tone of that graffiti made us question our safety. But to see people coming together to restore things to their natural beauty? Only in America!" ============================================================================== =================================== IC News ================================== Message: 12/53 Author: Prospect Public Works Sat Feb 22 Prospect Public Works News. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks to private donations from the business owners in the district, the mile square area around D and Fifth Streets in downtown Prospect will be undergoing a major rezoning and overhaul, turning the arts district into a pedestrian zone and public park with gardens and green space. All motorized vehicle traffic will be re-routed to the alleys and blocks around what will be named Kensington Gardens, with public parking available at the Prospect Metro station for commuters. As there was no need to hold referenda to either increase taxes to rehabilitate the district, nor have to turn it into a TIF, the proposal passed unanimously through the City Council. Groundbreaking has already occurred, and the organization behind the rehabilitation states that the work will be completed by summer 2020. ============================================================================== =================================== IC News ================================== Message: 12/54 Author: Kristen Mon Mar 02 The Guiding Light ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ LOCAL GIRL MAKES IT BIG WITH 'THE GUIDING LIGHT' Appearing on Social Media, Christian and Photography blogs, the news of a beautiful, religious themed photograph slowly gets around. The Guiding Light: A photograph taken inside a Cathedral, a beautiful piece with a large, stained glass window on one side, the cathedrals large crucifix with the image of Christ on the other. Beams of light pierce the stained glass, radiating out in a rainbow of color that land perfectly upon the crucifix. Dust motes in the air catch the light, adding a magical twinkle to the colored rays. And in between, a ghostly figure of a woman, walking from the window toward the crucifix, a beautiful center point to the piece. "It was one of those million in one chance moments that all photographers wait for.", Kristen Scott, the previously unknown photographer, explained to us. "I saw the way the light was coming through the glass, the dust in the air, and without giving away too many secrets, I set the camera to a long exposure and.. the results speak for themselves.". We asked her about the ghostly figure; Is that a depiction of the Holy Ghost? "I honestly have no idea how that came to be. The exposure was so long that I went to lunch. I'm guessing a member of the public stepped into shot briefly, just long enough to catch the presence, but who am I to say? Perhaps the Cathedral is haunted? Or this was a message?" Are you religious yourself? We asked her. "Not in the traditional sense. I believe something is out there, watching over us, but I wouldn't like to put a name to it." The photograph has already been downloaded thousands of times since it was placed on her website, we asked Kristen how she's dealing with the surprise interest. After a chuckle, she told us, "Last week I was working nights at the Chicken Hut, so this is very surprising. I think it's wonderful, that my work has so much meaning to people.". Lastly, where was the photograph taken? "That was St. Joseph's Cathedral, here in Downtown Prospect.", Kristen replies, "I'm friends with the Reverend, as we both volunteer at homeless shelters.". "The investigation is still on going, however it appears that the fire started in apartment room 501, the home of an author by the name of Caelan Flynn. Mr. Flynn's remains were reportedly not amongst the rubble. In fact the whereabouts for Mr. Flynn are still currently unknown, however investigators are not commenting on whether they suspect foul play. The cause of the fire was a gas leak. Though now the question remains, where is Caelan Flynn, and did he have a part in causing this fire? While King was the MAJORITY owner, he had given an unspecified amount of power to Talen Decaine, Sr. to have a balance. This is of course 'off-camera' information. On-camera, the 'fedhead' was known as 'The Brass' Peter Bauer who acted as a conduit for King and Decaine. LEGACY Wrestling was King Treborn and Decaine's take on the industry. After working on the creative team in a bigger, more prominent promotion a few years back, King-- a wrestler by birth-- wanted to give the business something for all its given him-- and Decaine, a former promoter with ample amounts of success in the past looked to bring a fine mixture of traditional Pro Wrestling and angles to keep the fans happy, LEGACY Wrestling [or known simply as 'LEGACY'] looked to blaze a new path as an independent promotion. This well known alley is practically a canvas for local graffiti and mural artists. The brick and concrete of the buildings on either side have been painted on by students of every sort for so many years that they've built layer upon layer up to create an artificially smooth surface. Artists, student organizations, local gangs, etc. have been tagging these walls for years. Lisa began her career in Houston Texas on October 4th, 1976 when she signed with new wrestling promotion, Lone Star Grappling Arts under the helm of promoter, “Dirty” Dean Duke. Lisa would go on to become a seven time Women’s World Champion under the Lone Star umbrella; most in company history before eventually capturing a record precedent twenty other World Championships throughout her illustrious career which spanned over FORTY years. Lisa “The Glorious One” Robertson would find success everywhere she went, all around the globe and would go on to become a pioneer for women’s wrestling. Once the emergency broadcast about the blackout rolled out, several clubs and restaurants in the area began to arrange outdoor servicing. All scheduled bands and musicians were encouraged to retain their spots. "Just because there is a blackout doesn't mean we can't do business." Says Tom Alms. "Our neck of the woods enjoy outdoor life. We have a great location and a great vibe here. Proud to be in this neck of the woods." Tom's vibe was echoed by many owners in the famous district, who brought out industrial generators to power floodlights and cooked food atop charcoal broilers and smokers while the police, after intense negotiations with business owners and local community leaders, cordoned off the street for outdoor gatherings and crowd control. <<Several photos of the Blockparty during Night 1 of the Blackout are posted and presentable. All performances take place in the center of the street on a makeshift stage. Live bands are visible, as is a DJ, other pictures show cooks and groups of people to show size. In an act worthy of the Grinch, a robbery turned deadly has turned the Holiday Season into a somber affair for the friends and family of Elvira "Evie" Adams. Co-Owner of the Artists' Guild on D St. and Fifth Ave. A painting was stolen and when Ms. Adams responded to an alarm being set off, shots were fired with deadly consequences.
