It wasn't often King Treborn took an active approach to have a face to face with someone who generated interested like Goldstein did. With the full intent to wrap business up at the office-space rented to handle LEGACY business, King picked up the sophistication that Goldstein emitted, it was a trait that a lot of the new guys who broke into the business lacked. King was from the old-school, the days where you worked your way through promotions and earned on-air time, it was not like that anymore. A lot of kids had the wrong idea, they didn't treat this as a business but more of a dating scene where they would meet their future wives, because face it- they marry for fun, not love.
King Treborn: Your name... It's familiar, excuse my memory lapse, the ol' noggin' took one or two too many shots through the years.
One distinctive feature about King Treborn that left a lasting impression with everyone he came across was his voice. His career was cut shorter than he would of liked due to several bouts with throat cancer, but he beat the sickness and never let it stop him from continuing with his life.
Mr. Goldstein: As does yours, your father was Oswald Treborn, correct?
King Treborn: Indeed it was.
Mr. Goldstein: Smart man, did a lot for the business when he was alive. God rest his soul.
King Treborn: I appreciate the gesture. But as I can see Mister Goldstein, you're a business man as I am. We could sit here and shoot the word all day, we'd get caught up in the memories of how the industry WAS compared to what it IS.
When King spoke the words "was" and "is" he raised the volume of his voice to emphasis and essentially scoff at it.
King Treborn: The companys's Web Master that runs the social media account and handles the other online stuff told me that your name has created a pretty good round of buzz, so I'd like to be the first to offer you an opportunity. Despite what they're saying out there how LEGACY is this- how LEGACY is that, there's no base to it. We're in the process of reclaiming the game that was lost through B.S. and politics. The shows we produce every other week? The hits and viewers we achieve sometime shut the site down due to traffic. We're becoming a staple in Southern California and despite not actively looking for more additions to the roster? We'd welcome you with open arms.
The air that Goldstein carried was something else, it was a throwback to the days where King Treborn would be boo'd, hissed at and used as target practice for a mob of angry fans after cutting a scathing promo on where they were from. It wasn't often someone came along that carried themselves in the manner of Goldstein and that made King want to lock him up as a LEGACY talent because the possibilities are endless with a man like him. He carried himself like an old-school gentlemen, class and balls, that's what a champion was supposed to look like.
King Treborn: I'm not gonna sit here and promise you the world Mister Goldstein as I'm sure you've heard that approach in the past. What I'm going to do is reiterate my point that if you decide to join LEGACY Wrestling, you will take place in the reclamation project we're undertaking to get the business back to where it needs to be, so there's a future for my grandchildren. Your call.
That's why King had gained so much respect <and hatred> through the game- he was brutally honest and pulled no punches. Despite the fact that he might appreciate what you're capable of doing, he wouldn't beat around the bush and kiss anyone's butt, King would tell you straight how it is and how it will be and from there a decision would be made. As both men sat sitting across from each other, Goldstein lit the cigar in his possession up, before he put it to his lips he offered Treborn one, King shook his head.. and despite the strict California law banning smoking in-doors, that didn't bother a man of class like Mister Goldstein.. not a single bit.
