Card: Break On Through

Match: Hayden Phoenix & Ian Windermear vs. Joey Edwards & Wayne Williams w/ Richard Steen

Record: 1 - 0

[The scene opens as Hayden Phoenix is standing at a monitor, watching highlights of the Independence Day show. Highlights of his win over Ian Windermear flash, as do the wins by both Joey Edwards and Wayne Williams. Hayden grabs a bottle of water, takes a sip, and sits down to continue to watch intently. It appears as though he is watching to try to learn something; almost like he is studying the film like a football player would. It looks like Phoenix is in some sort of backstage area with noise and talking coming from different directions off-camera]

[Phoenix] - I have a great respect for Ian Windermear; he pushed me far near my limits, but I knew that I couldn't give up. He is not the type of opponent that will let a mistake slip, and I was able to overcome and walk away with not only a win, but a win in my debut match here in LEGACY. That said, Ian and I have a common enemy that we will be seeking out when that time comes, and after the match I felt like we earned the respect of each other out there. I know the week before WASTE took him out, well I simply do not let those I respect put up with that bullshit. I felt like I needed to step up, and I am glad that Ian is allowing me to do so. I am an unknown to many on the roster, and making that business connection is an important one. I may not agree with the way he does things all of the time, but together I am sure that we can get the job done. It appears that we are being tested right off of the bat; we are in a Tag Team Match again Steen's boys, Joey Edwards and Wayne Williams. It seems like these two aren't for playing nice, and they will get dirty when they need to. That is fine, if that is how they need to win. Ian and myself know that they do not play by the rules of the game going into the match, so we will be prepared to cover each other's back.

[Phoenix takes another drink of his water bottles as he stretches his arms and legs out a bit. He looks like he is ready to start working out some more in preparation for this week's match. Phoenix prepares himself both mentally and physically when it comes to his training. It appears as though he has been doing some mental training, seeing the strengths and weaknesses not only that of his opponents this week, but of his partner and of himself]

[Phoenix] - It is important for oneself to improve, get better, learn from their own mistakes, and build upon their strengths. This is where I stand out from the competition... from the rest. I know that I am not that the top of my game, and that I will continue to improve and get better. I know that being cocky and knowing that you are currently the best version of yourself allows your opponent an 'in' to take over and dominate. I am not that type of opponent; whether I respect an opponent or not, I take them very serious and do not underestimate anyone. I was confident last week against my partner, and while I knew I would do everything possible to win, I knew that Ian would bring his 'A' game and push me to the edge. He did so, and we had an outstanding match. I don't take our opponents this week lightly, and I know what they are capable of.
On the other hand, Joey Edwards claims to be at the top of his game, the peak of his career. Well congrats to him; being at the top of his game has allowed him to win a match against.... no one. His opponent never showed, so in my book, that is not a win. The record book might show a 'W' for Edwards, but we all know it doesn't count or matter. He proved nothing. And at that, he has Steen at his side... gotta have your boys, Wayne Williams and Richard Steen close to help protect any chance at victory. Victory matters so much that you need to make sure to have friends around? How fucking pathetic.

[Phoenix cracks his neck a few times and sits up a bit to make sure he is being heard clearly]

And Wayne Williams, boy am I glad to know who you have beaten in the past. But what have you done lately? What have you done in LEGACY? I can sit here and talk about everything I have done in Toronto and various companies in Ontario, but who cares what you did before? In the past, did you also ask if customers wanted fries with that? How about asking them if they had any coupons? Who the fuck cares... your reputation HERE is built upon what YOU have did here in LEGACY. Oh wait, you used some brass knucks to beat an opponent? Oh wait, YOU didn't even used them... your handler Steen had to use them. What a great start for a piss poor excuse for a tag team. YOU guys are the reason why tag teams across this country are falling out of the graces of the fans. You resort to these sad tactics to get a win, and cannot do it on skill alone. Weapons are a sad replacement for true skill and talent... two things you two are lacking. At our match, Ian and myself will put on a clinic with you two... so be ready for it.

Ian and I do not need some sort of daddy figure to help protect us and make sure we win, we have talent, skill, and the drive needed to win. That is something you two lack... other than respect from anyone in the back. I earned Ian's respect, and he earned mine. And that is why this week I will continue my winning here in LEGACY. Ian and myself will be making names for ourselves, and you two will just be two more in the history of our LEGACY.

[Phoenix heads away from the camera as the camera pans and fades to black]
