The Ratkin of Prospect & You!

So, you wanna go to SoCal, do ya? Well, I aint gonna stop ya, runt. I'd give ye advice, though. Go te' Prospect. Place is surgin', our family growin' strong and 'ealthy. Ye'll find it. And once yer there? They'll find ye'! Ma' Ange is a cunning Queen. They're in the Walls 'ave proven to be worthy succesers to the ol' Nest and its Mama. Where did they go? Eh, who give a rats ass, eh?

Hi there, potential Ratkin! Prospect is not just the home of the mangy mutts, the Garou. Oh, no. Not at all. It is a home to so much more than those .. things. It is a home to some of creations most durable little mammals, the Rats! Small, angry and paranoid with a huge chip on their shoulders, the Ratkin hide out in the corners of the world, in your walls and under your floors where they defend their Nests and Sacred Places as they await the Apocalypse; the End Days. And once it comes, Ratkin kind will surge and wreak the Wylds Holy Judgement upon Creation.

But until then, they hide. But just because they hide does not mean they are safe. Far from it! Like all the other Shifters linked to Gaia, the Ratkin are just as much a target of the Wyrm and other enemies as all the others. So they hide, they defend and they strike out where needed, to make sure their ever increasing families are safe.

For the Ratkin, there is just as much excitement and adventure out there as for any other Shifter, albeit in a more angry and paranoid package.

Prospect offers a permanent Nest and Colony, NPC run and not controlled by any player. This Colony, They're in the Walls and its Rat Nest, is a safe spot for all characters. Any issues will thus be handled by Staff. The Colony is also there to offer a way for PCs to explain how they learn Rites and Gifts and similar things.

There may also be a number of player controlled Colony and Nests on the grid. This number will always vary as it depends on active PCs and their respective Backgrounds. Available +hangouts and safe areas will also vary depending on active PCs. If you wish to add to the grid and the Sphere with a Hangout and a Colony (if you chose to buy the Background), you are free to contact staff to get this added to this Wiki page, to fill out the Story.

General Overview and Ratty Information

So, the Ratkin does things a bit differently compared to some of the other Shifters. They do not have Tribes or Auspices or anything of that. They do, however, have Aspects which each Ratkin is birthed into. They also operate on Renown, with a system based heavily upon Secrecy, Survival and Just Getting Stronger!

  • Tunnel Runners: Messengers, Mavericks, Scouts and Spies!
  • Shadow Seers: Shamans, Seers and Keepers of Ancient Secrets
  • Knife Skulkers: Executioners, Judges and Juries. The Ratkin Secret Police
  • Warriors: The Angry Ones. The fighters and Warriors of Ratkin Kind.
  • Engineers: Freak Factor Aspect, with a strong affinity for the Weavers things.
  • Plague Lords: Freak Factor Aspect, with a unique insight and immunity to the Wyrm
  • Munchmausen: Freak Factor Aspect, delusional Umbral wanderers with a strong Fae complex
  • Twitchers: Freak Factor Aspect, rage fueled insanity with a hunger for destruction.

There are also some interesting toys and bonuses to the Ratkin!

  • You get the standard stuff, of course. Regeneration is a key factor, and works as for all Shifters. You also cause Delirium in humans, but it is reduced due to the Ratkins general avoidance of Humans throughout history. Silver is also bad mojo for Ratkin, and follow the same rules as for Garou.
  • The Umbra is accessible by the Ratkin as per normal, but they get some added fun ways to enter it, through the Rite of the Bolthole!. Keening gives Ratkin a way of warning eachother through high pitched sounds and Speaking in Squeaks allow them to speak Ratkin language in all forms. Very neat!
  • Momma Rat Loves You means you get access to the Rat Totem bonuses without having to buy Totem Background! Very cool! And through the Blood Memory you never have to worry about forgetting your favourite new Ratkin friends name, or your way back to the Nest. Or any nest for that matter. And you will never have to worry about Getting Lost Underground as no Ratkin will never not find their way out.
  • Your Senses are highly enhanced and your Vision in Dark Places is enhanced as well. And never worry about the man coughing on the subway because you're simply Immune to those Disease Particles in the air.

Notable Ratkin Colonies in the Prospect Area

They're in the Walls - Permanent NPC run Nest

- They're in the Walls is a relatively new Colony in the Prospect area. Having recently surged after the last dominant colony migrated away, they now claim their home in an old Ratkin Nest under the City. Once an old cave that stood the test of time (and having a City built on top of it), it was strengthened with cement, mortar and brick until it became one of the more closely guarded secrets of the Ratkin and home to many a Rat and Kin. (+hangouts/jump The Rat Nest). They're in the Walls at The Rat Nest has fast established themselves as the strongest, lead by the Rat Queen Ma' Ange

The Cage Whisperers - Player run Nest

- The Cage Whisperers is a very young Colony which has started a small Nest at the Washburn Recyclings hidden Chateau le Pinto (Tiny Shanty Town), a place which was originally founded by the famed Engineer Gidget. It was later taken over and ran for many a year by the Shadow Seer Cynthia, before finally passing over to the Engineer Great Balls of Fire. The small Colony that now inhabits the depths under Washburn is unusual, in that its rodens based Kinfolk are almost fully dominated by the near mythical Caged Folk. The many Ratkin that make up the Colony are almost all linked to these Caged Folk in some way or other. It is run by a very wily rodens born Ratkin by the name of Ten Times Ten ways of Revenge

The Alley Rats - Player run Nest

- The Alley Rats hail originally from Colorado. They are a very young little group of Ratkin which broke away from their home to follow an ally of theirs, Shadow's Fury. Once arriving in Prospect, the group and their Kin burrowed and hid wherever it deemed most safe, until Shadow's Fury acquired the Old Bowling Alley, under which he discovered an old bomb shelter. There were signs that there had once been another Nest here and capitalising on Mama Rats previous presence the Colorado based Ratkin established a Nest. They now call themselves The Alley Rats and as they build their strength, their numbers begin to surge.
