Ogami Itto

It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles.
Then the victory is yours.
It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.

xxxxx My life was ages ago, it was dedicated to serve another, in which I did so till my dying day. Never had I thought in my life I would ever go to heaven, to cross over into a realm of enlightenment and be given a chance to see all I have accomplished rise before me. I was a killer, a murderer, but who I killed was in service to my Lord and I never once regretted what I did or questioned why I did it. For many like myself we live in the romantic notion that we live and die in each moment, to live now and not regret, for the next moment could be certain death. But those who truly lived like that often died quickly, and those who didn’t were either gifted, blessed, or God had something far worse in store for them. Every boy dreamed of being a Samurai, if only they knew the truth.

xxxxx Even if one knows the truth, most often the case is that they continue on with the path in which they had started, not seeking to turn back or steer from their goals. I knew the truth, and it didn't stop me from raising the name Ogami to that of Noble's station and earning me and my kin the title of Samurai. I served my entire life, I killed, and never once did I think anything beyond the horizon as I had brought my family name into honor. I think back on those days, from when I was a child to my time as an adult and I was ignorant then of the truth that stood before me... The world I knew was much deeper, and I, would eventually be part of this 'deep' world.

xxxxx What I left behind was a legacy, a legacy I built with my own hands, a legacy in which I put my blood, sweat and tears into accomplishing and was finally given in my waning years. My death was not one of many who lived by the sword, no, mine was due to old age and when your heart can no longer take the pleasure it was receiving from your second wife. I was sent to a prison of eternal darkness, Yomi, there I wandered hounded by demons and other souls, the sounds of suffering echo in the night remind you that you were in hell. I never once begrudged my place, I knew where I was going the moment I picked up a sword, so I did not fear where I was but I did not enjoy it either. Ages past in that darkness before one of those among the Song of Shadow visited me to inform me of the passing of the last of my decedents. The last son and daughter of my lineage were callously killed for no other reason than for want and this alone brought the anger needed to see me rise from Hell and into a body not my own.

xxxxx I have risen and found my home among the Heavenly Devils and now follow the path of vengeance to end the man who killed the last of my lineage off. Since my education and second breath I have tracked the movement of my target, found where he has fled and followed him to his place of hiding. Prospect, beautiful name, but what I will do within it to this man is anything but beautiful. Every moment I exist is fueled by this rage to end him, but it won’t be a quick end, I will savior every bit of the torment I bring him, every ounce of pain he suffers I will devour. When he thinks he is about to die, I will offer that hope of sweet release before him like a carrot to a donkey than rip it away to make him suffer more. I hear the screams of my lineage, of the last son and daughter of Ogami and I will give them what they want, -Vengence-.

“Give up sainthood, renounce wisdom, and it will be a hundred times better for everyone
Give up kindness, renounce morality, and men will rediscover filial piety and love.
Give up ingenuity, renounce profit, and bandits and thieves will disappear.
These three are outward forms alone; they are not sufficient in themselves.
It is more important to see the simplicity, to realize one's true nature, to cast off selfishness and temper desire.”

-Lao Tsu, Tao Te Ching
