Denise was trained to con people from their money by her family. She had a natural talent to read people and always be aware of what was going on, even the weird stuff no one else could see. That came in handy at an early age when she spotted some people trying to steal from her Aunt while she was giving someone a reading. It also led to her family thinking she was crazy when she would tell them the other, stranger things she could see. At least she was able to learn much about the art of performing and picking out things to say to make a reading believable.
By the time Denise was 14, she had started filling in for her Great-Grandmother as she was unable to perform very often. In between performing, her Great-Grandmother, Beverly, would give her more tips and share more stories which helped her make the readings even more believable. When Denise started the first reading after her 16th birthday, everything seemed to change. She did not have to make things up or work as hard to read people. Visions would just come to her and they would come true. This was good for business, but freaky for Denise. It became worse when those visions of her family would come - especially when 2 of her cousins died. The visions became more scary of monsters, vampires, and terrible events that had to be magical.
When Denise turned 20, her powers increased. Now, sometimes, she only had to touch someone and visions would come to her. When she started having dreams that involved herself, she knew she needed to find someone to help. That meant leaving her family, as they could not understand what was wrong with her. She 'borrowed' a car, and drove to Prospect.
Denise was told stories by her Great Grandmother Beverly about Denise's Great Grand Aunt named Betrice. She was a few years older than Beverly, and from what she told her, Betrice had the same Spirit Sight and Psychic Visions that Denise has. For her, it got worse after their parents were killed in a terrible accident. Betrice ended up going insane and being left entrusted to the cousins that live outside of Prospect. She did not live long, but recently a box with a few of her belongings and a diary were found by Denise's cousin Anthony. Denise hopes to get ahold of them and that they may be the key to helping her figure out what is going on with her.
Upon reviewing the diaries and drawings and other belongings of Denise's Great Grand Aunt Betrice, Denise now believes that her Great Great Grandfather (Betrice and Beverly's father) was not a mortal. She thinks he could be Fae, but she is not sure yet. He said he was from a Romani family outside of the country, but he secured a place in the family because he was such a good con artist and truly loved Denise's Great Great Grandmother. The descriptions Betrice wrote and pictures she drew of her father make Denise believe he could be Fae, has he bears a resemblance to her boyfriend Oren. What she wrote and drew is not at all what her Great Grandmother Beverly described their father to look like. Denise needs to find figure this out.
