Egyptian Religious/Magical Symbols and Implements
- Ankh: A cross with a loop. Also known as the key of life, key of the Nile and the crux ansata. A symbol of Egypt and its gods and a representation of their power.
- Djed: A pillar representing the spine of Osiris. In old form, a symbol of the craftsman-god Ptah. A ritualistic power-focus.
- Was: A ceremonial scepter or staff used in Egyptian religion. Made of wood and/or faience, with one hand carved into the likeness of the Typhonic Beast, the other forked. These staves represented power and authority (Was literally being Egyptian for "power" or "dominion") as well as the priest's dominion over chaos. The image of the Was is also a heiroglyph representing the idea of power.
Egyptian Deities
- Aten: The United Sun. The worship of Aten was the state religion during the reign of Akhenaten. Worship of Aten was eradicated by the pharoah Horemheb.
- Atum: One of the aspects of the creator god, the setting sun. Manifested as an old man.
- Ra: AKA Re. The supreme god, the solar disk, the noonday sun. See also Khepri, Aten, and Atum. Symbolized by the Solar Disk and as a pharoah or priest on a barque.
- Shu: Son of the Atum aspect of the creator. The god of air and light.
- Tefnut: Daughter of the creator, wife and sister of Shu. The goddess of water. One of the deities referred to as the Eye of Re.
Sorcery Paths and Rituals
Mana Manipulation: The Breath of Ra. Sacred geometry, precise placement of crystals and statues, and the Djed pillar form stationary focuses to channel, direct and pool magical energy. The ankh and Was scepter provide personal tools to command and direct magical energy into vessels such as water, wine, and food. Resonance is manipulated by the use of items such as incense, perfumes, and salt.
Summoning, Binding, and Warding: The Art of Naming: The use of magical Names of Power, either spoken aloud or engraved on objects, provides the ability to summon and command entities, bar their passage or prevent them from touching objects. These names can be woven into sacred circles or bind them inside a containing object such as a canopic jar.
