First of all, let me start by saying, in case it really needs to be said, that Black Spiral Dancers are dark, twisted, brutal bastards. In simpler terms, they are involved in some really sick shit. This alone is going to be enough reason for most of you - assuming that there are those reading this that haven't actually been in or plan on being in a scene with Azoth - to turn away, green in the face, disgusted and beside yourself in disbelief as to how anyone could ever enjoy playing creatures that revel in murder, rape, and destruction. There's no denying that these aspects of our world are purely human in nature. Such dark headlines sweep global news on a daily basis on a scale that makes even the most empathic person dull from the constant exposure. These aspects of society are unpleasant and, given some godly chance to make a difference, most of us would snuff it out given a chance. But, that's not very realistic.
However, a point that should be made aware is that the Black Spiral Dancers represent the allure of moral freedom combined with the seduction of bestial power. Such dark themes tend to be very appealing to people, in much the same way that humans are drawn in by vampires; there is an undeniable psychological attraction that many find impossible to resist even knowing that the temptation will likely lead to death.
Even better, however, is the fact that the Black Spiral Dancers are the epitome of tragedy amidst an already epic tale of tragedy and despair. The fault of their madness is not their own, nor of the Wyrm, but of the Weaver's influence and manipulation throwing things out of balance. The children of the Wyld, the Gaians, do not see this and instead take on the role of Destruction, not Rebirth and Creation, further throwing everything out of whack. The Dancers know the way to solve the issue, but who is going to help such a lost and dangerous lot? Is the cost of cosmic balance worth the destruction along the way or will it take the end of all to finally make things right?
