What is it? Why should I care?
Status is a measure of your social standing within the local Camarilla pecking order. High standing means the community tends to work with you, low standing means it tends to work against you. Elders still look down on you, but if you have high standing, they look down on you a little less. As physical violence against fellow Camarilla is generally proscribed, social violence becomes more important.
How does it work?
Status Rating is calculated based on:
- Status background (+5 Status Rating per dot)
- Holding a position (Prince = 25, Seneschal / Primogen = 20, etc.)
- Some relevant merits/flaws (e.g. Prestigious Sire)
- Status can be loaned for favors (+help +boon)
- Status can be penalized for scandalous behavior (+help +harpyreq), or rewarded for good behavior (still goes through +harpyreq but is ICly interpreted as a boon involving a NPC)
Suggested scale for boons and scandal: +5 for saving another Kindred's life, -5 for getting another Kindred killed. Minor events are worth fewer points in either direction.
Scandal
Scandal for Camarilla is like renown for shifters, but in reverse: it reduces their status until they make amends.
The harpies are NPCs. PCs can try to play the role, but this is no guarantee that anyone will listen. (See Guide to the Camarilla page 30.) Staff, see '+shelp +harpy' for notes on how to process requests.
Some events typically leading to scandal: (borrowed from a LARP)
Behavior
- Airing dirty laundry
- Behavior not befitting one's station
- Disrespecting the standing of other Camarilla Kindred
- Faking one's reputation
- Falsely claiming a boon
- Frenzying
- Infiltrating another clan
- Minor violations of the Traditions
- Questioning the sect
- Reneging on a boon
- Spreading heresy
- Supporting scandalous Kindred
- Violence
Court
- Disrespecting Elysium
- Interfering with the duties of a court officer
- Violation of domain protocols
Praxis
- An elected Prince
- Announcing an attempted Praxis seizure
- Bloodhunting during a Praxis seizure
- Publicly challenging a Praxis
Other factions/races
- The Sabbat works somewhat similarly to the Camarilla.
- Other vampire groups are too disorganized, or take a different approach.
- Shifters have rank, earned via renown; changelings have Title; demons have Eminence; Wraiths also have the Status background, and we permit others not listed above (e.g. mages) to take it.
