Through the years the two moved up from patrol to detective, but they were assigned separate partners and as time passed, Darren became really absorbed in his work and was away working on cases more and more. Though Jacie noticed the withdrawal, she attributed it to the cases coming in, which in all honesty and fairness, were increasing in number for all of them.

There is much more to the story. Much more, but the synopsis remains the same: Eventually, he decided differences of interests and the continued childless state of his wife was enough of an excuse for a divorce. In reality, he had been meeting with a coworker (Angela)  for the past several years and when she ended up pregnant, he had left his wife of 11 years for her.
