Announcement

+bbread 10/1

At Xpm on Saturday, December 5th, the power-grid for Prospect failed, a blackout hitting ninety percent of the city. People are being asked to keep their cars off of the streets. City workers are currently working on restoring power, but no time frame has been given.

What is this? Staff-approved Prospect-wide Risk 0 event.

How long will this take place? End time is not yet announced, but anticipate that this will be a 'thing' for at least the entire weekend.

What about the cities other than Prospect? Blackout is Prospect only.

How did this happen ICly? Initial reports are a ‘cascading series of operator errors.’

What if I don't like this? You can opt-out and handwave a generator or such at your home or place of business.

What if this causes X problem for me? See above, but also, this is Risk 0. You can handwave (or better yet, RP) your solution.

How can I participate? Go onto the street-grid and meet new people in new places. Run a related PRP either open to MUSH or specific to your sphere/faction and how the deal with the Blackout. You can also play a mundane NPC, just note it in your character name -- emergency service and charity workers might be an ideal thing to play if you want to go this route.

What kind of PRP should I run? Something that connects to the theme of the blackout. Think of it as a writing prompt. Do something open-to-all and meet some new people or run something for your sphere/faction that addresses how they would deal with the blackout, from problem solving, emergency prep, or various adventures. You will know your faction/sphere better than anyone.

How do I get people involved in my PRP/find others? Use your faction/sphere channel for stuff specific to them. LFG for general stuff. Also see '+help +event' you're encouraged to announce things you're running this weekend through a standard '+event' or '+event/current'

Can I loot the city or cause destruction? If you wish to do this, it would be recommended you run a related closed PRP in the RP Rooms. The intent here really is a fun way to meet and bring people together.

Where is there still power? Places like Hospitals and such will have emergency generators and batteries that should last the weekend. There's also a small part of the grid where power has no failed: 'Ash and Maple from Comet to Lincoln'

Why that area? It seemed a good idea to give people a defined space where power remains, and due to it being on the edge of the city and an area supporting a University and various emergency services, this seemed like a sensible place. There's nothing beyond those mundane reasons to be read into this location.

What about Nightzones? You can safely assume the blackout will still be happening Saturday night and Sunday night. A nightzone scene can take place in the appropriate part that night. Standard nightzones can be used, but think about what they might be like in a blackout. In addition, as always you can declare a particular space 'nightzone' should everyone else be ok with that. Some event-long nightzones will be announced shotly.

What about the Internet? A satellite internet connection and a laptop is usable, but otherwise most of the city is without access.

Can I solve this problem by doing X? 'Solving' the blackout is beyond the scope of the blackout event, power will eventually be restored when the event is over. You are however welcome to run a PRP in which you and your group attempt to 'solve' the blackout.

What about the Masquerade/Veil/etc..? That’s still a thing and nothing about the event on it’s own violates that. However, if you violate those during the event, that’s outside the scope of the event and will likely be dealt with by appropriate people.

Who is involved with this event? Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. Specifically, though, Bobbi, Tabin, and Thorn have been doing behind-the-scenes coordination, as well as preparing some events and PRPs to run. They will be roving STs and can help potentially help you with your ideas.

What if I have questions? Standard methods apply, though it's suggested that you check with Bobbi first, as it will allow her to more easily track frequent questions and then put answers as a reply to this bbpost, as well as avoid overwhelming staff with questions they might not be able to answer.

Anything else? For now just enjoy and take the time to RP your reactions to the blackout and plan PRPs.
