⏎ Back to Arumi

Focus

A miniaturized version of a full spaceship hyperdrive fit into a backpack (with a large lens core, well mounted against shocks), controlled with a hand-held control unit.

Effect

Gather together the desired traveling group, program and activate control unit with adjacent targets and destination. Space bends around the group, warping them to the desired destination anywhere on Earth or in the Umbra, as far as Etherspace.

Difficulty

Base difficulty: 8, 9 with witnesses. Always used with unique and specialty focus for a -2 modifier. An additional -1 if used where it is not vulgar.

Successes

Staying within one realm/world/dimension, the standard Correspondence Range chart on Mage Core p. 209 applies.

When traveling between realms, one success must be spent for each 'gauntlet' crossed: Gauntlet, Biospheric Horizon/First Horizon, Anthropic Horizon/True Horizon, Spatial Horizon/Outside the Solar System, or other planetary/realm gauntlets.

For example, Arumi's lab to Etherspace crosses the Gauntlet and the Biospheric horizon for +2 successes required.

For positioning within a realm, use this chart:

Successes Range
One Very familiar
Two Familiar
Three Visited Once
Four Described location
Five Best guess, Mister Sulu

Successful research can lower the correspondence range category by one.

Theory

A spinning lens array is able to create an ephemeral micro-wormhole, with an endpoint at a chosen destination, stretching space to pull adjacent people and objects targeted by the unit to the destination.
