Why Shelby ticks the way she does (Besides what's in her jacket)

Ratkin Psychology : Ratkin are creatures of extremes. For ratkin, shifting Gnosis and Rage totals, and how much they contrast, can mean the difference between passive and explosive. After a fight she's a little calmer, after a few gifts she's a little touchy. It's who she is, she's just Wyld...Tainted.

"Read, touched."

Anonymity : Possessing a natural anonymity, the veil covers up most human memory of Shelby. It is a Willpower vs 8 roll for them to remember her in the room, or seeing her in passing. All you weirdos out there are safe; her name just takes a while to hit your head sometimes.

"That chick, in the jacket, with the...Face, and the, talking...Starts with a...B? No, wait."

Impulse Control Problems : And you thought you had it bad. Shelby has mechanics for hers. "Whenever the Twitcher gains rage, roll one die against a difficulty of 10 minus the Twitcher's rank. If it succeeds, add one rage to her temporary pool and roll again, until you fail or the twitcher reaches her maximum rage."

"I once asked her why she didn't leave me any coffee. She threw a roll of quarters at me and said hit Starbucks."

Freak Factor

Unstable - Rage comes a little too easily for these Ratkin; this is both a blessing and a curse. A seething anger isolates you from ordinary humans, but it also makes you primed for battle at a moment's notice. Whenever a character with this Background gains a Rage point, roll a die; on a 10, he gains an extra point of Rage. Unfortunately, he also makes Frenzy rolls at difficulty 4. Ratkin at Freak Factor 2 don't play well with others, but they're absolute bastards in a fight. All Twitchers are Unhinged and Unstable; thus, they must pay three Background Points for their Freak Factor during character creation.

Unhinged - Ratkin with Freak Factor 1 have a highly developed relationship with their Totems. If you're Unhinged, your god is still calling you. After your First Change, the voices just wouldn't stop. Whenever you are uncertain of a course of action, you may hear voices instructing you with advice. For players who are new to the World of Darkness, this blessing can be massively useful—a godsend, if you will. Nonetheless, as one would expect, characters who are tormented by voices are often treated as insane. All Twitchers have this psychological "enhancement."

Unhinged for MUSH : There is no real way to justify using this background for any in-game benefits without running into problems. So when I play Shelby, I run Unhinged not so much as a power, but as a personality point. There's just too much roleplay potential to ignore it. If you ever want to know what I mean, try listening to this. Or this. And imagine hearing that ALL THE TIME. With, of course, little philosophical tidbits sprinkled in every now and then. That's how I play this freak factor for Shelby.
