"Ami i lubu ku kema kosta."

Birth of a Monster
Adelino paces back and forth in front of their hut, sweat running down his face from both the heat and the nervous energy coursing through his body. When the midwife comes jogging into view he gives a soft sigh of relief.

"Quick, inside." He opens the door and ushers the old kinfolk inside before doing the same and closing the door behind them. The windows are sealed and on the bed Ndjiia writhes and growls as contractions hit her. The matriarch of the family has been in crinos for long months now and they all know what is to come. When Ndjiia roars the kinfolk midwife orders Adelino to help her with the supplies. Hot water, clean cloth and a few ointments. Everything on hand as they assume their positions.

It is a long and arduous process and though he will never admit it Adelino fears for his life more than once as his wife thrashes. Two hours after the contractions start the midwife is finally holding a small, sodden metis that quickly begins crying out and struggling. Dodging the tiny claws the old kinfolk cleans and bundles the babe, laying it in a nearby crib. When the contractions only lessen instead of outright stopping the midwife turns to Adelino

"There is another one coming." The old woman turns back to the now much calmer matron as Adelino nods. "Take care of the little one boy."

Adelino tries. He really does. But the tiny metis squirms and cries and tries to crawl out of the crib. For almost twelve hours Ndjiia works to bring her second child into the world while her husband fusses with their firstborn and the midwife tries to make it as painless as possible. When a second, tiny human baby finally leaves her mother's body the old kinfolk is completely surprised the child managed to survive. Finally able to relax Ndjiia falls into a peaceful sleep as the midwife debates where to put the second born.

"Put her in the crib." Adelino says softly as a flash of understanding settles in his mind. The old kinfolk tells him he's mad, that the metis will tear the child to pieces, but he takes his second born from the midwife's arms and carefully slips the girl into the crib. The metis cries and squirms as he does but once the surprisingly quiet girl is layed beside the beast the firstborn reaches out and curls around her, settling for the first time since birth. The old kinfolk stares and Adelino smiles.

"A natural protector. The only way she would have survived."

For Her People
One day her mother summons her to the bush. She goes without question, barefoot over the hot earth of her home, braids whipping behind her as she runs. Her mother waits for her, a small, patient smile on her usually stern face.

"Hello daughter. Come. We must talk." With those words she begins the walk and Sabaro follows. They range through the wild places, slow and steady as her mother gifts her with words that would help her going forward. By nightfall they are on a small cliff overlooking the village they call home.

"Remember child, this will always be home and you will always be welcome here. But to help our people you must go out, find those lost to us and bring them back into the fold. That is your task, your fate. You must not fail."

My Everything. The one I will die to protect.

I Will be Here

If in the morning when you wake,
If the sun does not appear,
I will be here.
If in the dark we lose sight of love,
Hold my hand and have no fear,
I will be here.

I will be here,
When you feel like being quiet,
When you need to speak your mind I will listen.
Through the winning, losing, and trying we'll be together,
And I will be here.
If in the morning when you wake,
If the future is unclear,
I will be here.
As sure as seasons were made for change,
Our lifetimes were made for years,
I will be here.

I will be here,
And you can cry on my shoulder,
When the mirror tells us we're older.
I will hold you, to watch you grow in beauty,
And tell you all the things you are to me.
We'll be together and I will be here.
I will be true to the promises I've made,
To you and to the one who gave you to me.
I will be here."

Mother and Alpha, she is the guiding light of our family.

A native of Guinea-Bissau, Ndjiia is a homid born Ajaba of the Dawn as well as Rokea kin. She is a strong, confident and fierce woman. A warrior to rival any other. She had just finished her rite of passage when she met Adelino Cabral. Taking him to bed, she was amused by his submissive nature. She boasted and bragged about how easy he was to catch until his parents left for Portugal. She found the entire ordeal amusing but had duties of her own to keep her occupied, such as defending the lands from encroaching industrialization.

Eventually, Ndjiia decided the best way to beat an enemy that seemed to exist as an idea was to gather new ideas. She began studying abroad, eventually ending up in Portugal where she once again met Adelino. Finding the young man to be a pleasant diversion, she took him as a lover, but expected him to go when she didn't want him around. That is until she saw him watching her when she took one of his friends to her bed. She pretended not to notice, but did enjoy the look of pain on his face.

When he finally confronted her about it, she demanded he tell her why he waited so long. Stumped, embarrassed and a little aroused, he confessed the pleasure he felt from her being with other men. He suggested they return to Guinea-Bissau so that her family and their childhood friends would know what had become of them. When there, the stories spread and it wasn't long before many men would come to her, sometimes on the same night. But she was still a proud Ajaba and only selected the time and place and men she wanted. Even when one of those men had been recognized by her own mother as Ndjiia's father. But by then, it was too late.

Eventually, Adelino asked her to marry him. She teased him for months before accepting. Months in which her belly began to swell with twins. Finally, when it could be hidden no more, she agreed and they were wed.

Adelino N'Tchassó

Father. A bond stronger than blood.

Born in Guinea-Bissau, Adelino was of Portuguese descent and a Bastet kin. While living in the African nation, he "went native" and at the age of fourteen met an Ajaba girl to him he gave his virginity. His parents shortly thereafter, having been scandalized when they found out, decided he really needed to learn what it meant to be Portuguese so carted him off.

While at university, he met the girl once more and they resumed their relationship. He soon caught her cheating with one of his friends but said nothing. There was almost a year of it before he finally said, "If you're going to do it, let's go back home so people will really know." This sparked a confrontation where he told her he wasn't leaving her but rather wanted her to enjoy it, he just wanted to make sure that everyone important in their lives knew that he wasn't man enough for her.

Returning to Guinea-Bissau, it didn't take long for her to find others. A wild night of debauchery in which all the men of two villages and an island came to their home and used her. The people who knew them, and some who didn't, would talk behind his back about his unfaithful woman. There were whispers about his lack of manhood and some even suggested that he might be female. A few times he was attacked, but she would come to his rescue when she knew about it. Finally, Adelino asked her to marry him. The guests knew, that as they got married and he took her last name as his, he was not the father of her children.
